Changing and adapting to an evolving environment is the basis of life on Earth. And this is what New Genomic Techniques tries to replicate by inducing designed mutations. However, the current scientific and technological barriers in NGT detecting products that comply with European legislation are causing ambiguity. Here is where #DARWIN_NGT inserts! IFOAM Organics Europe reposted this
Over the last weeks, the European Parliament was buzzing with the beginning of the new mandate and the instatement of the various Committees. TP Organics extends a warm welcome to the new Members of the European Parliament and wishes great success to the elected Chairpersons. As the European Technology Platform (ETP) for Research & Innovation (R&I) into Organics and Agroecology, TP Organics is eager to collaborate with the new Parliament to promote more sustainable and resilient food and farming systems. Our goal is to influence research and innovation for organic and other agroecological approaches that contribute to sustainable and resilient food and farming systems. Investing in organic research and innovation means investing in solutions for sustainable farming systems that meet all Farm to Fork targets. To fully realise the potential of organic food and farming as a comprehensive solution and a guiding light for the transition to sustainable development, R&I budgets for organic farming under Horizon Europe and the next FP10 need to align with the Farm to Fork target of 25% organic farmland. Our vision includes: - Moving organics forward - Climate-resilient, diversified farming systems - Redesign of policies from local to EU level - Sustainable value chains for better food systems With our 151 member organisations, including 9 National Technology Platforms (NTPs), we reach 5.8 million farmers, 5,000 companies, 2,500 researchers and farm advisers, and 20 million citizens. A new Parliament has begun its mandate. As the unified voice of the organic movement in Europe, we are ready to contribute to fostering a sustainable, resilient, and prosperous future for our food systems and rural communities. By working with nature, banning synthetic inputs, and minimising external inputs, organic farming produces healthy food, protects water quality, and enhances biodiversity and soil health. It also addresses socio-economic challenges by ensuring fair livelihoods for farmers, empowering rural communities, and bolstering food security and self-sufficiency. Our vision includes: ✅ Fostering the transition to sustainable food systems ✅ Empowering farmers by promoting farmer-led innovation and reward farmers' environmental efforts ✅ Strengthening rural economies and ensuring fair livelihoods for farmers. ✅ Advocating for consumer choice and access to sustainable, healthy food. ✅ Science-based environmental policies. With 420,000 producers, 86,000 processors, and a market worth €45.1 billion, we lead the transformation of food and farming systems. Let's work together for the benefit of farmers, consumers, and ecosystems. 👨🌾💚 For more information on our priorities check out our manifesto 👉 https://ow.ly/xwmL50SI8JF
