About us

OMGEVING is a design office with over 85 experienced and dedicated spatial planners, landscape architects, urban planners, engineers, architects, environmental experts, and just as many personalities who make up our two fields of activity – Landscape architecture and Urbanism. The clear but dynamic structure provides an overview of the wide range of large and small-scale projects that this independent and multidisciplinary design company with offices in Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent takes on. In every urban or landscape project that it is a part of, OMGEVING not only seeks out the spatial but also the societal value it can add. OMGEVING lets this commitment filter through into its research, design, and its construction work. The design company sustains the human scale of its projects through the principle of cooperative collaboration. Collectivity – in both substantive and process-oriented terms – is a key concept for OMGEVING. Teams that have been carefully composed for each project create a network of strategic alliances, through which disciplines and areas of activity are drawn together according to requirements, both internally and from external parties.

Inauguration of ecological urban park Vlasakker in Kortrijk   Last Saturday, ecological urban park Vlasakker, a 17-hectare park at Hoog Kortrijk, was inaugurated. The parkland is an important green ecological link in Kortrijk's supra-local open space network and the green underlay for the aspired green 'one campus model' for the various educational institutions that are in the area.   Within this project, commissioned by Stad Kortrijk and with support from ecological partner Hesselteer, OMGEVING developed a biodiverse parkland that strengthens existing landscape and ecological qualities by preserving and reinforcing the existing forest zone along the water buffer basin and the open meadows with formal longitudinal canals. The diverse landscape is connected by a varied network of paths, seating areas and soft recreational functions.   The park design was developed in close dialogue with local stakeholders and was constructed by Wegenbouw Ockier. The realisation of the ecological urban park underlines OMGEVING's focus on biodiverse parks that support the life and growth of area-specific plant and animal species combined with the park function.   Photo credits: City of Kortrijk and Karel Debedts More info: https://lnkd.in/gm7YAvJB   #CityofKortrijk #Ecologicalurbanpark #Vlasakker #Biodiverseparks #Landscapearchitecture

Inauguration of the Annie Vande Wiele bridge in Ghent   Last Friday, the Annie Vande Wiele bridge, the new bicycle and pedestrian bridge crossing the Watersportbaan in Ghent, was inaugurated. It is an important link in the Westerringspoor, a safe bicycle connection between the city's northern neighbourhoods and Ghent-Sint-Pieters train station.   Within this project, commissioned by Stad Gent and co-financed by Vlaamse overheid and Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen, OMGEVING supported bridge designer and partner Ney & Partners with the landscape and traffic integration of the bridge, including safe crossing zones and smooth connections to the existing bicycle routes at both junctions of the bridge. The integration and realisation of the bridge underline OMGEVING's focus on the sustainable mobility projects of the future by contributing to modal shift with an integrated design approach.   Photo credits: City of Ghent   #CityofGhent #AnnieVandeWielebridge #bicycleandpedestrianbridge #sustainablemobility #modalshift

‘Lier 2050’ spatial policy plan provisionally approved. The municipal council of Stad Lier provisionally approved their draft spatial policy plan in April 2024. Lier has involved and queried many actors and inhabitants through an extensive process of participation and communication. The research resulted in the ambitious plan ‘Lier 2050’ that will make the municipality future-proof by 2050. The policy plan consists of five spatial policy frameworks: open space, city and village, greenblue network, ring road and surroundings and recreational facilities. An extra framework was added during the process: economy, which is being researched by IDEA Consult. This sixth policy framework will be plugged into the process, allowing it to be definitively established together with the first five policy frameworks and strategic vision. At the same time, a plan-MER for the spatial policy plan has been prepared by Antea Group Belgium. The public consultation for the spatial policy plan (five first frameworks) and plan-MER is taking place from May 13th until August 11th 2024. On June 12th OMGEVING explained the spatial policy plan during an information market. Two years after the construction, the landscape park ‘De Turfweide’ in Veenendaal (NL) is in full bloom. The design creates space for further water buffering while the wet and dry grasslands attract a multitude of plant and animal species. World Environment Day 2024: land restoration, desertification and drought resilience Today, World Environment Day, calls for a sustainable transition to protect and restore our planet with focus on the themes land restoration, desertification and drought resilience. At OMGEVING, we shape the sustainable living environments of tomorrow through resilient landscapes as a powerful response to these challenges. On this day, we would like to highlight our design research for the restoration of degraded wetlands as part of the Integrated Flood Risk Management study for Thu Duc City, Vietnam, as a leading example of land restoration. In the area, native wetland vegetation is restored within the development of a climate-adaptive NbS wetland park that also provides so more water storage for the increasing flood risk. As an urban nature park, the wetland park also provides co-benefits for surrounding existing and future residents. Client: Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development through the Partners for Water program in support of The World Bank . Partners: lead consultant Royal HaskoningDHV and Delta Context B.V. More project information: https://lnkd.in/geY4qTPM

First shovel hits the ground for the transformation of 'R4 West Oost', Ghent (BE)  Last monday the first shovel broke ground for the conversion ‘R4 West Oost’ project in Stad Gent! This DBFM project, approved by the Flemish government and granted to the consortium BRAVO4 with BESIX, Epicofund, i4B-The Belgian Infrastructure Fund, RID PPP (Rebel, abrdn) STADSBADER NV, will thoroughly transform the connection between the city of Ghent and the port area of Ghent. The access and exit ramps for motorised traffic will be completely redesigned via key intersections. New bridges, tunnels and subways will guide local traffic under or over the #R4, ensuring a smoother flow and reducing dangerous situations between road users. The overall landscape plan is designed by OMGEVING while Ney & Partners and TRACTEBEL Engineering are involved in this project as design engineering consultants. The consortium will start preparatory works and some accelerated interventions this month. In August 2025, it will start the larger works on the 22 intersection points on and along the R4. The total conversion will be completed in early 2031. More info: https://r4wo.be/ #R4WO #Gent #Infrastructure #Landscapearchitecture #Landscapeplan #BRAVO4
