This week OIP Space Instruments’ Altius team attended the event celebrating our Critical Design Review in the Museum of Natural Sciences. While the road to building our Flight Model will remain challenging, I am proud of the resilience and technical excellence our team has shown to achieve this milestone. Now straight to the launch!

OIP Space Instruments is very proud to announce that it will take a leading role as optical sensor expert in the European Defence Fund project called #BODYGUARD, aiming at increasing defensive capabilities against adversary satellites. The PROBA-3 mission is a true testament to Belgian expertise and collaboration! 🇧🇪 ☀️ The solar coronagraph (ASPIICS), aboard two satellites crafted by Redwire Space Europe, isn’t just managed by the Koninklijke Sterrenwacht van België; it was developed and built by the talented team at the Centre Spatial de Liège (CSL). As a subcontractor to CSL, OIP Space Instruments played a crucial role in designing and developing the Focal Plane Assembly (FPA) and Camera Electronics Box (CEB) units. 🔭 The giant coronagraph is set to create a nearly perfect eclipse, allowing us to observe the sun’s corona closer to the rim than ever before. During the peak of solar activity, ASPIICS will be our eyes on the sun, capturing invaluable data. 🤩 To achieve this, a specialized detector with supporting structure (the FPA) is essential. And guess what? OIP has masterfully built both this FPA and the CEB, which commands and controls the FPA. 🎉 Let’s celebrate this remarkable Belgian achievement in space science! ☕ TASTY LAB TOUR – BARISTA EDITION!   It is important to invest in state-of-the-art technologies and equipment to ensure an efficient and comfortable work environment, and deliver products of the highest standards.   We often forget to stand still and look back at what our teams have achieved. In order to avoid the “island-mentality”, OIP organized the second edition of the Tasty Lab Tour where expert colleagues get the chance to show what they have been working on and proudly present the newest developments. This year we focused on our new oscilloscope, photo-spectrometer, remote controlled demo vehicle and environmental test chamber.   Why “tasty” you ask? Along the way sweets could be collected to be enjoyed with a coffee, hot chocolate or tea during the live barista experience.   Thank you to the insightful presentations of Thomas Follet, Koen Spiessens, Tom Gesqueire, Marlies Vantomme, Aaron Algoedt, Michael Debo and Marc Creemers.   #investments #continuousimprovement #brownbagsession
