#DenysSmartBuildings • In Middelburg, we recently completed one of our first construction projects in The Netherlands, and it certainly is a project to remember. With our valuable partners, we realised the completely demountable and flexible Walcheren district office, housing three Dutch police corps. This modern police station is built energy-neutral and sustainable, using the most advanced techniques and providing all necessary facilities for the police. #DenysEnergies • At various locations along the Porthos route, we are working hard as the main contractor to construct the onshore pipeline network. The pipes are welded and specially coated in welding tents on site. By working in welding tents, the work can take place safely and continue regardless of weather conditions. Some facts & figures regarding the pipes: The pipeline network covers 52 kilometers, including 30km on land and 22km at sea. The pipes for the onshore pipeline are 18 meters each and, with a diameter of 105 cm, they weigh about 500 kg per linear meters. The offshore pipes are 12.2 meters long each and have a diameter of 40 cm. The offshore pipeline also has a plastic insulation coating to keep heat in the pipe and a concrete weight coating for the purpose of stability in the seabed. The part of the offshore pipeline from the seawall to just beyond the Maasgeul has a greater wall thickness and a heavier concrete coating than the rest of the pipeline. The first section of the pipeline therefore weighs 535 kg per meters, while the rest weighs 'only' 390 kg per running meters. With a few exceptions, all pipes are underground. Where the pipeline crosses a canal or the seawall, they are 40 to 50 metres below sea level. #DenysEnergies • A few weeks ago, we successfully completed the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) under the Caland Canal! 👏 It was a spectacular operation, both above ground and below the Calandkanaal. To cross the canal underground, two machines had to drill towards each other. At a depth of 50 metres below the canal, the drill heads ‘met’. It was a drilling that had to be done very accurately and was continuously monitored digitally as well. After this encounter, the drilled hole was enlarged with one machine by means of several reaming passes to make it large enough for the Porthos pipeline with an external diameter of over a metre (1050 mm). A dozen telescopic cranes lifted the pipe to provide the right angle for retraction into the borehole. While retracting the tube, it got stuck. In close consultation between Porthos and Denys, an effective solution was found and the execution team was able to successfully release the tube. The tube has now been positioned in exactly the right location and is ready for use. Denys was in charge of the complete restauration and renovation of the castle. Once the summer residence of Belgian industrialist Ernest Solvay, this unique piece of heritage is soon to be home to the BEL centre, a research centre for particle physics. #DenysTunnelling • Happy to announce that we’re awaiting the arrival of our very own brand new HDD Rigs! We’re partnering with Herrenknecht AG for the purchase of two full electric HK45 compact rigs. These rigs mark a significant milestone for Denys as the first Belgian company to own and operate such advanced equipment in the compact HDD-rig class. The new rigs will not only equip us to undertake projects with greater efficiency - allowing us to put cable ducts into place without disturbing top-level activities such as roads and railways. We will also be able to do so while minimizing our environmental impact, underlining the shift we’re making towards more sustainable operations. #TeamDenys • Next to World Bee Day on 20 May, the Flemish Departement Omgeving dedicated last week to these small endangered pollinators and their conspecifics. And we were happy to join 🐝 For some years now, two docile bee colonies happily buzz around the garden of Denys HQ, enjoying and pollinating the flowers and green environment, growing in numbers and thriving more and more each year. In exchange, they provide us with tasty Denys honey. A small effort for us, but a huge difference for the existence of these tiny creatures. Another huge step in our own sustainability journey, and an important evolution in the "zero-emission" mission of construction logistics. Therefore, we were grateful to have been invited to the ViaVia press moment today at APK Group. With important partners in the field, the ViaVia Taskforce works towards zero-emission construction logistics in Flanders. In the presence of Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works Lydia Peeters, Holcim Belgium, Volvo Trucks and Fluvius, we presented how Denys helps constructing a greener and brighter future, improving the quality of life.
