We're excited about the future and look forward to continuing our collaboration. 🤝 #DRS #Sustainability #Collaboration #Nature

  • ⚠️ Through their social dialogue initiative, Żywiec Zdrój was alerted by key local stakeholders to low water flow in nearby wetlands and peat bogs, which were primarily fed by groundwater and rainwater. 🖊️ Żywiec Zdrój responded by signing a letter of intent with Centrum Ochrony Mokradeł (Wetlands Conservation Centre) to launch the ‘Kropla do Kropli’ (Drop by Drop) project. This initiative aims to preserve local ecosystems and restore the area’s water resources and hydrological balance through proactive and targeted efforts. 🌿 The project focuses on rehydrating peat bogs and protecting key water sources to secure long-term ecological stability. Collaboration is at the core of the initiative, with local stakeholders, scientific experts, and the community. 💧 Preparations are underway to begin irrigation on two peat bogs of a combined 140 hectares, in partnership with local landowners, the Mirosławiec Municipality, the Polish State Forests, and experts from Polish universities. 📖 Additionally, the project includes the development of educational materials on wetlands designed to be engaging and accessible to consumers. • Did you know that Deposit Return Systems (DRS) have proven their effectiveness across EU Member States, achieving impressive collection rates of around 90% for beverage containers? These systems not only enhance the collection rates but also minimize the demand for virgin materials by supplying clean, high-quality, food-grade recycled material. Discover the status of DRS in your country and learn more about its impact by visiting our interactive map: https://lnkd.in/d87KJRG3 Updated figures available soon! #Sustainability #Recycling

WARNING: PROFANITIES BELOW Day 2 at the #IAH2024 World Groundwater Congress in #Davos has been another wholesome meal of hydrogeology. So, let me share just a few bites I—as a non-scientist—found noteworthy as to what sustainable groundwater management needs: 💧 Attention: Groundwater is lagging behind surface water. For example, groundwater needs to be incorporated in climate change adaptation plans. 🌍 Holistic approach: Scientists will call it #IntegratedWaterResourceManagement (IWRM), while in business, we will fancily refer to #WaterStewardship. Fun fact: at the focus event on water stewardship, a scientist admitted low awareness of the term - or rather its meaningfulness. We've got some homework to do! 📊 Knowledge and tools: Hate to break it to you, but sound management needs informed decisions. There are currently many white spots in groundwater data. Gathering it and developing tools will be resource-intensive... but essential. 💸 Sound pricing: An example from Bangkok showed how the issue of land subsidence (due to over-abstraction of groundwater) was mitigated by adjusting water pricing. Thanks again, IAH - International Association of Hydrogeologists, for this fantastic opportunity! Tomorrow’s field trip day—stay tuned! 🚍👀 P.S. For those who came here for the profanities... did you know there's a thing called Shit Flow Diagram? Look it up! We need flow diagrams like that for water—ideally, one for each watershed, see the pic. Natural Mineral Waters Europe (NMWE) #ClimateAction #SustainableWaterManagement #GroundwaterProtection 💦
