Lithium recovery and battery-grade materials production from European resources
About us
LiCORNE project is designed to set up the first European Lithium (Li) complete supply chain. The project aims to increase the processing and refining capacity for battery grade chemicals from resources available in Europe: ores, brines, tailings and off-specification battery cathode materials (waste). Considering the current lithium production with respect to the projected demand mainly driven by the green and digital transition, a thorough understanding of the Li recovery status is requested. LiCORNE will investigate 14 different innovative technologies carefully pre-selected based on their sustainability, industrial scalability and low operating costs. Based on the results reported, the most promising technologies will be further upscaled to TRL 5. LiCORNE is a European project funded under the Horizon Europe programme with a budget of € 6,766,313.00 and coordinated by TECNALIA. With a consortium including 16 key partners, LiCORNE will allow European Li to be mined, processed, and refined in the EU at a competitive cost and environmentally friendly way, and in the vicinity of gigafactories, securing therefore materials supply and drastically reducing the cost of transport and associated GHG emissions. Funded by the European Union under Grant Agreement No 101069644. 📸 or it didn't happen! This picture was taken last week, when our partners from ÉS Géothérmie have received site visits at Rittershoffen. This proved to be a great opportunity to spread information about #geothermal #lithium available in Upper Rhine Graben. ℹ️ An article recently published on our website explains the work carried by ÉS Géothérmie and the detailed #geochemical analysis they are currently conducting in Northern Alsace. This analysis will allow researchers to understand the chemical elements' behaviour in the rock before and after the hydrothermal circulation. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e9SPpnpS 🔜 More results are expected at the end of this summer.
