We’re an EU public-private partnership funding health research & innovation. We also manage IMI projects.
About us
The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) aims to translate health research and innovation into real benefits for patients and society, and ensure that Europe remains at the cutting edge of interdisciplinary, sustainable, patient-centric health research. Health research and care increasingly involve diverse sectors. By supporting projects that bring these sectors together, IHI will pave the way for a more integrated approach to health care, covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and disease management. IHI is a partnership between the European Union and European industry associations representing the pharmaceutical, medical technology, biotechnology, digital health and vaccine industries, namely COCIR, EFPIA (including Vaccines Europe), EuropaBio, and MedTech Europe. IHI’s total budget is EUR 2.4 billion. Half of this comes from Horizon Europe, the EU’s research and innovation programme. The IHI industry partners have committed EUR 1 billion to IHI, and a further EUR 200 million can be committed by other organisations that decide to become Contributing Partners. IHI builds on the successes of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), which ran from 2008 to 2021. The IHI Programme Office continues to manage and promote projects launched under IMI. In a few months, the VALUE-Dx project is coming to an end. To honour this occasion, we are hosting a closing conference on 4 - 5 September in Valencia, Spain. During the event, we will look back on the tremendous journey, discuss the final results and look forward to the possible continuation of the work. There will also be ample room to interact and share ideas with invited stakeholders outside of the VALUE-Dx consortium. 🔐Bigpicture partners sign pioneering Data Sharing Agreement!🔐 We are excited to announce that all Bigpicture partners have signed the new Data Sharing Agreement (DSA), a major milestone for secure and responsible data sharing under GDPR. The DSA is fundamental for Bigpicture's repository. Jan-Willem Boiten, co-lead WP5, and senior program manager at Lygature, says, "The DSA sets out all necessary safeguards and clearly defines the roles and responsibilities related to data sharing." 🔗Read more: https://t.ly/kGtKH #Bigpicture #DataSharing #GDPR #Research #Collaboration #Milestone

We are excited to share the latest publication on immune toxicity associated with Interleukin-2 (IL-2) immune therapy! 📰 Well done to Charline Sommer and all co-authors 👏
🚀 Publication Alert! 🚀 I am thrilled to share our latest research on immune toxicity associated with Interleukin-2 (IL-2) immune therapy, a collaborative effort with Fraunhofer ITEM and the Universitéit Lëtzebuerg (University of Luxembourg) as part of the imSAVAR consortium. Our study explores how continuous IL-2 stimulation affects IL-2 receptor (IL-2R) regulation in human lymphocytes. 🔬 Key Insights: - High-dose IL-2 significantly reduces IL-2Rβ surface expression on T cells, impairing IL-2R signaling. - Elevated IL-2Rα baseline expression correlates with this impairment. - NK cell IL-2R signaling remains stable, while CD4 T cells, especially regulatory T cells, are more affected than CD8 T cells. These findings resemble the cellular changes seen in patients with IL-2Rβ mutations and highlight the critical need to monitor IL-2R signaling to manage adverse events during IL-2 therapy. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eMRA-PSY A special thanks to all the co-authors for their invaluable contributions: Sophie Jacob, Tonia Bargmann, Muhammad Shoaib, PhD, Basel Alshaikhdeeb, Venkata Satagopam, Susann Dehmel, Vanessa Neuhaus, Armin Braun, and Katherina Sewald. Together, we are paving the way for safer and more effective immune therapies! #Immunotherapy #IL2 #NKcells #Tcells #Tregs #Collaboration

***EUbOPEN opens its gates to a library of chemical compounds*** Enabling and unlocking biology in the OPEN (#EUbOPEN), a project of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), is an international consortium which is lead by Prof. Dr. Stefan Knapp from the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt. The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) recognized EUbOPEN as a research highlight in its new brochure “IHI 2023 In Focus“. When developing new medicines, scientists aim to understand the underlying causes of #diseases. To achieve this, they study the role of different #proteins involved in the disease process. This requires chemical compounds that can alter or block the action of individual proteins. By the end of 2023, the EUbOPEN Gateway provided scientists with access to a library of 2300 precisely annotated chemical compounds covering approximately 850 different proteins. The EUbOPEN team’s goal is to create the largest and most deeply characterized open collection of #chemical modulators for protein function. Additionally, 88 high-quality probe compounds, co-developed by academics and #pharmaceutical industries, are now available to the global scientific community. These initiatives empower researchers in academia and industry to design #drugs that target specific disease-related proteins and enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms.
