💧The paradigm of “green or blue” #hydrogen has limited our imagination – and our options. In our recent #H2EQuarterly edition, we take a look at the #LowCarbon Hydrogen Delegated Act which will set CO2 emission limits for #hydrogenproduction, ensuring that only truly ‘low-carbon’ methods receive funding and permitting support. 💡 We are in a position to produce hydrogen and its derivatives for all the hard-to-abate sectors, and to support #electrification in selected sectors in the interest of #systemresilience. Waste-to-hydrogen technologies can also contribute at scale to the #decarbonisation mission and to the upscale of the #hydrogenmarket. 🌿 Clear and robust definitions of low-carbon hydrogen will encourage various production pathways while maintaining the primary goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In this lead story article: ➡ Sundus Cordelia Ramli, CCO Power-to-X of Topsoe, emphasizes the importance of proactive #investment to avoid future #renewableenergy bottlenecks. ➡ Andy Gradel, Managing Director at BtX energy GmbH, stresses the huge potential of hydrogen production from #biowaste. Italian gas grid operator Snam, steel pipe maker Tenaris and green technology firm Tenova are trialling the use of #hydrogen fuel at a Tenaris #steelplant in northern Italy in a bid to cut emissions. According to a joint statement from the groups, the trial to use hydrogen fuel in a reheating furnace at the plant in Dalmine, near Bergamo, will last six months. It will track the performance and reliability of using hydrogen in the steel industry. #HydrogenNow https://lnkd.in/eYKUWQSU

In the shaping of the next European Framework Programme for #Research and #Innovation (FP10), we signed together with 109 European associations, representing key European RD&I stakeholders, a joint statement to urge the EU Institutions to significantly increase the current budget in view of #FP10 and to make pan-European collaborative research the cornerstone of FP10, answering industrial needs by excellence. Key focus areas: ➡ Cross-border RD&I: Enhance #EUcompetitiveness with strong industrial participation. ➡ Pillar II: Allocate significant budget, driven by strategic priorities and industrial needs. Pillar II is crucial to: 🤝 Build trust-based public-private partnerships 💶 Reduce risk and stimulate private #investments in Europe To remain a model of economic and social prosperity, #Europe needs to strongly invest in pan European collaborative RD&I fostering collaboration, driving technology maturation and innovation, and leveraging the expertise of RD&I public and private actors to strengthen its competitiveness and assert its leadership in key technological domains, as well as pave the way for a prosperous and sustainable future. ➡ https://lnkd.in/er239wef #CompetitiveFP10 #EUBudget #HorizonEU #EUIndustrialCompetitiveness

Today we stepped away from our desks and headed out for an inspiring team away day. After a year filled of #hydrogen successes, this was a fantastic opportunity to connect, collaborate, and recharge outside the usual office environment. 💚Special shout-out to our colleagues Frederic Timmermans, Dominik Richter, Clémence Brodier, Joana Fonseca, Léa Malfrait and Alexandra Pokatina for organising such a fun day. Looking forward to bringing this renewed energy and inspiration back to our activities. Here's to more success together! 💪 #TeamWorkMakesTheDreamWork #HydrogenNow

Today we sent a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to highlight some institutional and policy adjustments needed over the next five years to ensure that environmental, climate, social, economic and geopolitical considerations are properly reflected in EU’s legislation. The European #hydrogenecosystem is well placed to contribute to reaching the objectives of the #energytransition and those of the Pact for European Competitiveness to ensure sustainable, prosperous, competitive and resilient of European economies. #Hydrogen can provide the necessary flexibility to our renewables and help decarbonise energy and industrial sectors that are still reliant on fossil fuels. For that to materialise in time for our 2030 reality check, Europe needs to move from the notional inclusion of hydrogen in the energy mix to an earnest development of the #hydrogeneconomy. The EU needs a compelling, comprehensive and focussed hydrogen implementation agenda with a budget, a timeline, and a map of institutional and industrial partners. Public investments should help European industrial actors derisk their #investments in clean solutions and help them preserve their global competitiveness. We also need to build hydrogen partnerships that bring volumes and security of supply, and positively contribute to the EU’s international development objectives and climate diplomacy. A bold long-term vision and swift short-term measures are needed to advance on a version of the #EUGreenDeal that simultaneously keeps us globally competitive, secures resilient supply of affordable #cleanenergy, and accelerates #climateaction. This week, part of our team had the chance to visit our member Agfa at their headquarters in Mortsel, Belgium. During the visit, they got to see up close the daily life of Agfa’s #electrolyser membrane production plant, learning about all the steps required – from ethical #rawmaterial sourcing to the final delivery to customers. Their GIGA-SCALES project – co-funded by the European Commission under the #InnovationFund programme – represents a key step forward in the EU’s ambitions to scale up #cleantech manufacturing. We thank the Agfa staff, especially Nick Valckx and Tobias Haegens, and its President for Digital Print & Chemicals Vincent Wille for their time and contribution in delivering #manufacturing excellence, crucial to keep the #EU #competitive and #resilient. #HydrogenNow
