Last week, we united our community of residents at our annual BBQ to kick off the summer season. It was the perfect opportunity to unwind after the busy Spring season. Friday night was filled with great food, drinks, and music, fostering meaningful connections & conversations. Cheers to the entrepreneurs and their teams—may their businesses blossom as beautifully as the flowers they gifted our manager 😍! #Friendsidents #HealthHubCommunity

💡 Last Friday, we wrapped up an insightful session on the "Medical Ethical File" at Health Hub Aalst, featuring Iris Verhaegen, Clinical Trial Center Coordinator at UZA. With her extensive experience handling 1500 files annually at the ethical committee, her advice and best practices were invaluable. Key Takeaways: 📌 If your new medical device or clinical trial impacts individual patients or involves decisions based on clinical data, submitting a medical-ethical file is mandatory. 📌 The approval process takes about 4-6 months on average and needs to be finalised by the moment you want to start your research where patients are involved. Timing is critical for startups, so plan ahead—better too early than too late. 📌 Preparing a medical-ethical file is no small feat. It's a detailed and rigorous process, so ensure you allocate sufficient resources. 📌 There's a fixed cost involved, regulated by the government. For instance, a commercial clinical trial with a medical device (Category I or II) costs around €12k. Factor in the costs of ethical approval in your financial planning. 📌 Applicability: The same rules apply if your medical device targets e.g. elderly care home residents, not just hospital patients. This session underscored the importance of early preparation and resource allocation for startups navigating the medical device and clinical trial landscape. A huge thank you to Iris for sharing her expertise! And also to our co-organizers MEDVIA, ZorgLab Aalst, and UZA for making this event possible! A special shout-out to all attendees for their interactive participation. #Medtech #HealthTech #Innovation #MedicalEthics #Startups

A special thanks to BD for their warm hospitality, and to Alexander Alonso for volunteering to test the award-winning product, MyBlanket, from My Add On 😍 . We also extend our gratitude to Line De Kimpe for the inspiring guided tour of BD's Experience Center & Nancy Veillefon for the work behind the scenes 🙏 . 👀 We look forward to the potential collaborations and advancements that may arise from this bridge-building initiative and remain dedicated to supporting the growth of health tech innovators. 🚀 #HealthTech #MedTech #Innovation #Collaboration #Entrepreneurship

🌟 Recap of the latest Lunch & Learn Session! 🌟   Last Friday, we had the privilege of welcoming dr. Michael Rosseel (president of the medical staff at Algemeen Stedelijk Ziekenhuis Aalst) and a distinguished delegation from GE HealthCare including Kristof Callebaut (managing director Belux), Ruben De Bock (IGT sales & market lead) & Stijn Cosyns (partnership manager). Joining them were the entrepreneurial voices of our ecosystem, making our latest Lunch & Learn session an enriching experience!   Dr. Rosseel shared valuable insights on how the recent merger of our city's hospitals is set to elevate innovation on the agenda of AZORG. Despite the pressures on hospital margins, he emphasized the necessity of innovation to address current challenges, such as the decline of hospital professionals and the exploration of data and AI opportunities to enhance diagnostics and therapeutics.   GE HealthCare, with its rich 125-year legacy of innovation, further enriched the discussion by sharing invaluable insights. From their pioneering work in prior care pathways to innovative business models tailored to navigate the constraints of hospital budgets, they showcased the power of customer-centric solutions and problem-solving approaches.   A big thank you to Dr. Rosseel, the GE Healthcare delegation, and all the attendees for an engaging and insightful session. Your openness and interactivity greatly contributed to the positive outcome of this event. Looking forward to more collaborative discussions in the future, as we work towards overcoming the myriad challenges facing the healthcare sector together! Save the date! Next edition: 27 Sept, with Bram De Winne (director economy of Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen), as we explore how the province is supporting innovations in healthcare.
