📢 Today Global Health EDCTP3 funded project #SAFIRE is kicking off! ⭐ It's the first-ever phase 3 #clinicaltrial, testing the efficacy and safety of antimalarials in #women during their first trimester of pregnancy. 📰 On SAFIRE, our Executive Director Michael Makanga said: "#Malaria during pregnancy can cause serious maternal and newborn #health issues. That is why we are supporting this crucial project, SAFIRE, with over €5 million. We are excited to share the highlights from the Global Health EDCTP3 Joint Undertaking Governing Board meeting. During the event, we presented the key findings from the first interim evaluation, which touch upon: 🔘 Relevance and Coherence: The objectives of Global Health EDCTP3 JU are highly relevant to emerging infectious disease threats, AMR, and climate-related health challenges, with partnerships like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation enhancing coherence. 🔘 Efficiency and Effectiveness: The JU shows cost-effectiveness, progress in gender integration, and robust monitoring. 🔘 EU Added Value and International Positioning: Enhanced inter-African and Africa-Europe cooperation, capacity building, and global visibility. 🔘 Transparency and Openness: Measures to boost stakeholder participation and strategic collaborations in Africa. We are proud to support Global Health EDCTP3 JU’s mission to foster global collaborative research and capacity strengthening, aimed at accelerating the development, evaluation, and implementation of interventions for infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. #NewProject Investing in the future and capabilities of healthcare providers is crucial to saving lives! I am delighted having joined the Global Health EDCTP3, a partnership between European Commission (Horizon EU) and the EDCTP Association, representing the governments of European and sub-Saharan African countries participating in the partnership.  The EDCTP Joint Undertaking funds the acceleration of clinical research to detect, treat and prevent poverty-related infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa including (re)emerging diseases due to climate change potentially affecting millions of people in the South and worldwide.  Heading the Scientific Operations team, I am looking forward strengthening with this team and its partners the pipeline bringing a positive impact on people's lives. https://lnkd.in/ejVb6aum #GlobalHealth #HealthEquity #Partnerships #DecisionQuality #EDCTP3 #HorizonEU
