About us
With a particular focus on energy distribution – electricity and gas – GEODE can speak with one voice in Europe as its members share a main interest: the sustainable, efficient, and reliable operation of the grids as the backbone of the future energy system. GEODE supports local energy companies active in electricity, gas, and district heating, focusing on the local needs of their customers. GEODE speaks through its members, directly and straightforward. GEODE’s messages are based on its members’ expertise on the daily operation of the grid. GEODE, is working to accomplish the energy transition to decentralised, decarbonised and digitalised energy systems and societies. GEODE opens doors and makes your voice heard in Brussels – long years of networking have established strong connections to European decision-makers and stakeholders. This is critical, as national energy legislation starts in Brussels. Networking and familiar working environment – sharing knowledge and experience through strong links built within GEODE’s European membership is a key asset. GEODE is proactive and its messages are conveyed fast as our members share a similar approach on the functioning of the energy system.

We are delighted to have actively participated in this year’s European Commission’s Copenhagen Infrastructure Forum! The Forum underscored the critical need for investments to strengthen the EU grids infrastructure at the DSO level, a pivotal requirement for achieving a successful energy transition. This was a central theme in EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson's address and the session dedicated to the EU Grids Action Plan. 🗣 GEODE’s Secretary General, Carmen Gimeno de la Fuente, presented our latest position paper on the Revenue Regulation for DSOs. She outlined the seven key principles designed to support DSOs in driving Europe’s energy transition through substantial grid investments: 1️⃣ Long-term predictability; 2️⃣ Anticipatory investments; 3️⃣ Sufficient cash flow; 4️⃣ Competitive WACC; 5️⃣ Balanced CAPEX and OPEX incentives; 6️⃣ Promoting efficient operation; 7️⃣ Incentivising innovation. Yesterday, our Working Group Regulation met online for a productive session before the summer break! We kicked off with an in-depth policy update covering several crucial topics, including a briefing on the recent European election results and a preview of the upcoming Copenhagen Forum. Additionally, we also touched upon developments closely related to grids, such as Council Conclusion on Grids as well as the High Level Roundtable on Grids. Our discussion then turned to future endeavors and touched upon the EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) & Florence School of Regulation newly released report “Benefit Sharing to Promote more Efficient Investments in Energy Infrastructure”. This discussion continued with members delving into our Position Paper on Revenue Regulation, which was officially unveiled at the GEODE Spring Seminar. 👏 A big thank you to our members for their active participation and valuable contributions!
