From 9 TWh to 45 TWh: Urgent policy intervention is needed for #UndergroundHydrogenStorage (UHS) to Achieve EU climate goals! Experts presented policy levers and the new map of the plants and investments across Europe. The highlights: ✅ Europe has reached an installed capacity of 6.4 billion cubic meters (bcm) of biomethane per year ✅ 81% of the capacity corresponds to plants located in the European Union (5.2 bcm) ✅ The EU-27 countries’ growth has reached 37% ✅ The capacity of the non-EU countries analysed grew by 20% compared to the 2022-2023 dataset. Biomethane & #GasInfrastructure is a cost-effective & sustainable match: ✅ Supporting competitiveness: Avoiding stranded assets & minimising costs ✅ Supporting end-users with minimal adaptation requirements ✅ Safeguarding competitive gas prices and a steady energy supply ✅ Boosting the decarbonisation of multiple sectors incl. industries, heating, transport, data centres and electricity.
