🌍 #FIDIfocus: Duties have been introduced on shipments of household goods into Hungary as the result of new government legislation. The regulations are applicable to shippers from outside the European Union, including the UK. Since January 2024, all shipments into Hungary have been subject to physical inspections. We are deeply shocked and saddened to learn the news that Max Chorus of FIDI Affiliate Streff in Luxembourg passed away on Saturday 20 July. Streff released a statement recognising his kindness and strong values as a cornerstone of their company, and his visionary leadership guided Streff for the last 30 years. His legacy will continue through the dedication of his family.   Max was a pillar of the FIDI Community, having contributed countless hours as a FIDI volunteer to help improve our organisation, both in his role at FIDI ADA, serving as President and founder of the association, and as a long-standing member of the FIDI PCG and Dispute Resolution Committees.   Max was a critical thinker, mentor, and dear friend to many. A pioneer of our industry, he challenged the status quo and lead the way when it came to sustainability, long before this became a critical issue, and embraced the latest technologies and trends. He was committed to making a positive contribution, in building a sustainable and solid foundation for the future generations of his family.   Our thoughts are with his family and colleagues.   We would like to share a few words from FIDI Board Members and FIDI’s Secretary General and invite you to share your comments below so that we may celebrate Max’s legacy together as we mourn his passing.   Rest in peace, Max, you will be sorely missed.   *Max Chorus on the left and his son-in-law, Max Neumann on the right.

🌍 #FIDIFocus : As more businesses make improvements designed to protect the mental health of their employees, #39Club Board Member Sonja Tuomela speaks to movers about what prospective staff expect from their employers today. In today’s fast-paced world, the lines between work and personal life often blur, leaving many individuals grappling with the elusive concept of balance. Amid this juggling act, mental health emerges as a critical cornerstone, influencing our wellbeing, productivity and overall satisfaction. As we delve into the intricate interplay between mental health and work-life balance, it becomes evident that fostering a harmonious balance is not a luxury, but a necessity – for individuals and for their companies. One of the FIDI 39 Club’s goals is to address the stigma surrounding mental health in professional settings. We want to be advocating for a culture of openness, empathy and proactive support. By fostering a climate that prioritises psychological as well as physical wellbeing, organisations not only enhance employee morale and retention, but also foster creativity, innovation and sustainable growth. With this goal in mind, the FIDI 39 Club hosted two online micro-events this spring, with a focus on mental health and wellness in the workplace. The sessions were led by talent management professional and mental health coach Christina Kasiraja-Lebrun. Read the takeaways from these sessions and the rest of Sonja's thoughts by reading the full article. Link in the comment section below ⬇ #globalmobility

🌍 #FIDIfocus: Logistics provider A.P. Moller - Maersk has opened the doors of its first ‘low greenhouse gas emission warehouse’. The company said the new facility, located in Taulov Dry Port in Fredericia, Denmark, is part of its plans to reach net-zero emissions by 2040, and ‘will play a key role in Maersk’s logistics footprint in the Nordics, significantly improving the handling of cargoes that arrive in the region by road, sea, and air,’ including from Maersk’s air hub in Billund. All indoor and outdoor equipment in the warehouse is electric, with solar panelling installed across the roof of the facility and excess energy fed back into the grid. Battery-driven trucks will be used for all shunting operations, with hydrogen stations planned within 150 metres of the site. The warehouse is a joint venture between Maersk and Taulov Dry Port, which owns the land and, according to the company, ‘was built to Breeam Excellent standards, with zero direct emissions from operations’. #FIDI #Europe #Sustainability

🌍 #FIDIfocus: The Port of Singapore has been severely impacted by global disruption to ocean-going freight, including import delays, export cost increases, vessel delays and additional charges, and booking rollovers. Alvin Ong, General Manager of Vanpac GroupAsia, who is based at company headquarters in Singapore, told FIDI Focus: ‘The current situation at Singapore port is pretty bad, with massive congestion, backlogs, and freight surges.’ He said that despite vessels reaching the port, backlogs in offloading containers were making it difficult to commit to firm delivery dates. Meanwhile, sudden surges in freight prices, additional port fees, and chassis rentals, were all adding costs to the supply chain. Container availability is also being impacted by shortages, and confirmed bookings on specific vessels have sometimes been rolled over to later departure times. In an update to clients, the company said it was ‘working to navigate these obstacles’, and recommended including warehouse handling fees and accounting for minimum storage periods, to increase transparency and manage customer expectations. The port is one of many that have been impacted by global pressures on shipping. A Reuters update at the end of June said retailers and manufacturers, and other industries that rely on large box ships, are feeling the effects of ‘surging rates, port backups, and shortages of empty containers, even as many consumer-orientated firms look to build inventories heading into the peak year-end shopping season.’  It added that global port congestion was at an 18-month-high, with 60 per cent of the vessels waiting at anchor located in Asia, and a total capacity of 2.4 million 20-foot equivalent container units (TEUs) delayed as at mid-June.
