Milestone achieved in the DenBalo Study! Following 18 months of intensive fieldwork, the DenBalo study is now transitioning from data collection to analysis, marking a crucial milestone in this research journey. Co-led by Ghent University, IRSS Burkina Faso, and #AFRICSanté and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, this project focuses on improving the #health of vulnerable #newborns in Burkina Faso. ✨ Following 141 mother-infant pairs from 24 weeks of pregnancy through six months post-partum, the team has gathered an impressive 29,437 samples now set for advanced analysis. 🧪 This work not only advances neonatal research in the region but also strengthens local capacity for specialized analyses. In collaboration with experts from several international universities, the study aims to identify health vulnerabilities and develop interventions to support a healthy gut microbiota and strong immune systems in high-risk populations. 🚨 Don’t miss the upcoming Imptox Workshop next Tuesday: "Navigating the Invisible Currents – Micro and Nanoplastics' Water Odyssey"! 🌊 Discover the hidden world of micro- and nanoplastics in aquatic environments and their profound impact on ecosystems and human health. This event proudly features Prof. Andreja Rajkovic, Professor, ICFMH president, ex IAAS from our faculty! As a leading expert, he will delve into the risks of co-exposure to cyanotoxins and micro(nano)plastics from irrigation water. His insights are not to be missed! Also speaking: 🔬 Prof. Tanja Cirkovic Velickovic (Faculty of Chemistry, University of Belgrade) will present groundbreaking research on micro- and nanoplastics in aquatic environments. 💧 Dr. Elsa Gadoin (Ghent University) will explore how microplastics create a haven for microorganisms in water. This workshop is more than just an event—it’s an essential exploration into the unseen forces shaping our planet. Be part of the conversation and the solution! 🌍 👉 Register now: https://lnkd.in/ensJzb7Y Ghent University EUGreenWeek
