About us
EXPRA (EXTENDED PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY ALLIANCE - INSPIRING PACKAGING RECYCLING), is the alliance for packaging and packaging waste recovery and recycling systems which are owned by obliged industry and work on a not-for-profit basis. EXPRA acts as the authoritative voice and common policy platform representing the interests of all its member packaging recovery and recycling organisations founded and run by or on behalf of obliged industry. These national recovery organisations are pursuing similar goals, essentially finding themselves and their stakeholders in a similar situation. They have set themselves the task of relieving obliged industry of their individual obligation to take back used sales packaging through the operation of a scheme which fulfills these obligations on a nation-wide basis on behalf of their member companies. The aim is to ensure the recovery and recycling of packaging waste in the most economically efficient and ecologically sound manner. Apart from requiring the co-ordination and alignment of individual member positions, the task of safeguarding common interests involves the projection of a coherent, unified policy and image to the outside world. EPR has evolved into a proven concept in many countries as implementation of the European and other national policy goals. Industry in more than 30 countries all over the world are using producer responsibility as one economic tool to ensure the collection and recycling / recovery of used (household) packaging. The members of EXPRA wish to demonstrate that the recycling of used packaging is an important step on the path towards the sustainable development that is necessary to safeguard our planet for future generations. Their work in and outside Europe is both successful and transparent. Incorporated as an international not for profit alliance under Belgian law,

How can Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs) plan strategically for PPWR and optimise flexible packaging to meet plastics recycling targets? Today, CEFLEX and PROs are hosting a workshop to explore a wide range of research and analysis from along the supply chain. 🎯 The objective: openly share packaging insights to help make the most of materials entering sorting centers - today and over the next 5-10 years. 📊 Data on flexibles - and rigids - in household waste streams, sorting and recycling testing and end market analysis for recycled polymers are all on the menu for participating PROs to explore and use to optimise in a quest to boost circularity and activate PPWR implementation. Yesterday, our EXPRA - Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance Regulatory and Public Affairs Manager, Monika Romenska, had the privilege to speak on the first Panel, "A Closer Look at the Implementation of PPWR," to discuss the vital topic of implementing the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (#PPWR). In partnership with The Parliament, #EXPRA, and PROsPA, Citeo organized an event in #Brussels focused on #advancing the #circular #economy. The insights from the first panel have shed light on the #PPWR as a crucial step towards achieving #circularity, establishing the foundation for necessary conditions. Ensuring #vigilant #monitoring and #robust #support is vital for its success. While questions may arise regarding the expected level of harmonization, it's essential to guarantee the presence of #key #conditions, #infrastructure, and #investments for effective #legislation #implementation. We extend our gratitude to all participants for enriching these insightful discussions, to The Parliament for hosting this event, and to Anna Gumbau Martínez for moderating such an engaging session.

Last week marked a milestone moment for the packaging industry as Valipac, EXPRA - Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance, and EPRO - European Association of Plastic Recycling and Recovery Organisations came together to host the inaugural seminar dedicated to #commercial and #industrial #packaging: "EPR-schemes for C&I packaging: The future has begun!" 📦✨ In alignment with the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive #PPWR , all Member States are mandated to establish #producer #responsibility #schemes for all packaging by the end of #2024, encompassing commercial and industrial packaging. Yet, with only a handful of Member States currently having systems in place for #C&I packaging, it's imperative to shine a spotlight on existing initiatives and #exchange #best #practices. We are thrilled to announce that the event attracted over #150 participants hailing from more than #30 countries across the globe 🌍, highlighting the global significance and urgency of this conversation. Huge thanks to all the participants and speakers who made such a successful and impactful event possible, and special gratitude to Jean-Paul Judson for his impeccable moderation. 💼💡 #EPRinAction
