About us
EXPRA (EXTENDED PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY ALLIANCE - INSPIRING PACKAGING RECYCLING), is the alliance for packaging and packaging waste recovery and recycling systems which are owned by obliged industry and work on a not-for-profit basis. EXPRA acts as the authoritative voice and common policy platform representing the interests of all its member packaging recovery and recycling organisations founded and run by or on behalf of obliged industry. These national recovery organisations are pursuing similar goals, essentially finding themselves and their stakeholders in a similar situation. They have set themselves the task of relieving obliged industry of their individual obligation to take back used sales packaging through the operation of a scheme which fulfills these obligations on a nation-wide basis on behalf of their member companies. The aim is to ensure the recovery and recycling of packaging waste in the most economically efficient and ecologically sound manner. Apart from requiring the co-ordination and alignment of individual member positions, the task of safeguarding common interests involves the projection of a coherent, unified policy and image to the outside world. EPR has evolved into a proven concept in many countries as implementation of the European and other national policy goals. Industry in more than 30 countries all over the world are using producer responsibility as one economic tool to ensure the collection and recycling / recovery of used (household) packaging. The members of EXPRA wish to demonstrate that the recycling of used packaging is an important step on the path towards the sustainable development that is necessary to safeguard our planet for future generations. Their work in and outside Europe is both successful and transparent. Incorporated as an international not for profit alliance under Belgian law,

🌍 Today, EXPRA had the honor of participating in the #42nd EIC #Conference - Excellence in Compliance: Competition Law and the Circular Economy. We were featured in Panel 2, focusing on "Implementing #European #Legislation in the Tensions between #Sustainability and #Competition #Law." Extended Producer Responsibility (#EPR) mandates collaboration across the entire value chain and engages all stakeholders. This collaboration often raises important questions about structuring systems that balance compliance with #competition #regulations while #pursuing #sustainability goals. In this panel, practitioners discussed how these challenges were addressed (or not) in their respective countries. Our EXPRA - Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance Managing Director, Joachim Quoden, expertly moderated a distinguished panel featuring esteemed speakers: Srečko Bukovec, Procurator, Slopak Dr. Alexander Dröge, Secretary General, Foundation Central Agency Packaging Register, Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (ZSVR) Aleš Rod, Executive Director, CETA Edoardo Croci, Professor of Practice, Università Bocconi A heartfelt thank you to all participants for an insightful and enlightening discussion! #EPR #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #CompetitionLaw #Compliance #EiCConference

Great progress in Québec where a brand new modern sorting plant is being build to start working in the beginning of 2025. This will surely lead to a fantastic increase in the quantity but especially quality of the output fractions on the way to make packaging circular. Congratulations to the team of Éco Entreprises Québec and GFL Environmental Inc. for making this possible. Thanks to Yazan Kano, CPA, CA and his team and my EEQ colleagues including Mathieu Guillemette for organising such a great visit and explanation for EXPRA - Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance! #EPR in action!
