🚨 Good Indoor Air Quality Must Become a Basic Human Right: Launch of the IAQ Manifesto 🚨 Today, we are proud to launch our joint industry manifesto advocating for good indoor air quality (IAQ) as a basic human right. Alongside our co-signatories, we emphasise the vital importance of IAQ for health, the economy, and future generations. We call on EU policymakers to: 📌 Recognise access to good quality air (including indoor air) as a basic human right. 📌 Give as high importance to “indoor air quality” as “ambient air quality” in EU legislation. 📌 Screen all EU policies and make ambitious proposals to ensure better IAQ in Europe. The manifesto is co-signed by AMCA Europe, AREA, EPEE, EVIA, Eurovent, REHVA, and GCP Europe. 💡Did you know that air pollution is often significantly worse in summer? 📌Several weather-related elements contribute to heightened levels of particulate matter in the summer months. In some cases, particulate matter has been seen to double during this period. ☀ As we enter into what is likely going to be one of the hottest summer periods on record, sufficient ventilation is more necessary than ever for the health and well being of citizens across the EU. 📢 Existing legislation does not go far enough to ensure that the quality of air that we breath is as clean as it should be. EVIA continues to work on ensuring that policymakers are aware of the threat that poor air quality poses for EU citizens and is calling on greater action from the EU on this issue. #airpollution #pollution #europeanunion #ventilation #vents

The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive was adopted in the European Parliament yesterday. A big thank you to the members, and to rapporteur Ciarán Cuffe in particular, for advancing the health and wellbeing of EU citizens. The inclusion of provisions and new requirements on Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), a historic first in EU legislation and a very welcome development for our health. Thanks to all who attended our panel event on indoor air quality yesterday! A very special thank you to our panellists for the lively debate. Indoor air quality remains a key health and an economic issue, and has been shown to result in additional cases of respiratory disease in Europe. Children in particular are especially vulnerable: 10-15% of childhood asthma can be attributed to poor air quality in schools. The revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive is a great opportunity for policymakers to address current regulatory shortcomings and improve indoor air quality for all Europeans.
