What a week! 📑 The #Hydrogen & Decarbonised #Gas Market Package has been published (https://lnkd.in/decXtMCJ and https://lnkd.in/g4b_t74p). 🏛 MEPs are meeting in Strasbourg for the first plenary of the new mandate, electing amongst their peers, president and vice-presidents. 💡 The European Energy Forum had its first meeting under the presidency of Tsvetelina Penkova. An amazing opportunity to exchange between key MEPs and industry representatives about the expectations, priorities and challenges related to energy. 📃 And the European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA) published its White Paper (https://lnkd.in/eabbwA44), outlining its priorities for the 2024-2029 mandate.

📢 The European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA) is proud to unveil its White Paper "The Industrial Gases sector is essential for a net zero and resilient European economy". 🏅 Our members provide the gases that are essential to both the strategic autonomy of the EU and to the protection of the environment. This places our sector right at the core of the transition to climate neutrality. We consistently uphold three fundamental principles: uncompromised safety, level-playing field and solid expertise. Our calls to the EU Institutions for the 2024-2029 period: ✅ Ensuring the level-playing field between outsourced and insourced production of industrial gases to the benefit of key European industries and the development of the hydrogen economy. ✅ Defining clear rules for the use of low-carbon hydrogen to foster a stable investment environment. ✅ Providing an enabling regulatory framework for CO2 management (following also the industrial Carbon Management Strategy) which contributes to the deployment and uptake of low-carbon hydrogen. ✅ In achieving sound European chemicals policy to protect human health and the environment for future generations, it should be recognized that some chemicals can be operated in a safe manner and do not have alternatives. Overly stringent regulatory principles could hamper the production and supply of industrial and medical gases under the same safe conditions as today. ✅ Supporting consistent application on both the medical device and the medicinal product regulations. EIGA WG-2 Cylinder experts have again a full agenda. Submission to ADR asking for extension to15 year periodic retest of Battery Vehicles, Drafting a document on the behaviour of composite cylinders in a fire, Define special provisions for transport of Type IV Cylinders, Marking of UN and non-UN acetylene cylinders, Responsibility of devalving/valving,… is just a brief summary of the so many different topics this working group is dealing with, with the objective to assure that EIGA’s members’ safety and best practice are well reflected in EIGA’s published documents and training packages and that these practices are reflected in both CEN & ISO standards and Dangerous Goods Transport regulation. WG2 experts also used the lessons learned from incidents on caps & guards to improve the related ISO 11117.

Ready for the Future of Low-Carbon #Hydrogen in Europe? At today’s Hungarian Presidency Workshop, IOGP Europe's Senior Policy Officer Gaetana Manganiello highlighted the importance of a clear and practical regulatory framework and strong investments in low-carbon hydrogen. Gaetana Manganiello, in collaboration with Eurogas, lead and established an informal coalition and presented the joint recommendations developed with 12 other associations 👉 https://lnkd.in/eQ86HWv3 She shared key recommendations to support #lowcarbonhydrogen development: 🔸 Enable and reward industries using low-carbon hydrogen as a pathway to decarbonization; 🔸 Ensure consistency across all types of fuels, promoting a technology-neutral approach; 🔸 Reward innovations that reduce carbon intensities in the natural gas supply chain, as opposed to relying on fixed carbon intensity values; 🔸 Recognize the importance of carbon capture and storage (#CCS), including outside the EU; 🔸 Provide investors with certainty that the 70% threshold for #GHG savings will apply for the project’s lifetime. For an in-depth look at IOGP Europe’s recommendations, click here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eynQ9isE Special thanks to the other speakers for their valuable contributions: Victor Bernabeu, Eurogas || Nicolai Romanowski, Cefic || Daniel Fraile, Hydrogen Europe || Rafik A., Methanol Institute || Guilherme Cardoso, nucleareurope || Jean-Marie MIZZI, FuelsEurope ------------------------------------------------------ 🛢 We are the European voice of the oil and gas industry. 📰 Interested in data, policy positions, discussions, trends, events, and more? 🔔 Give us a follow and ring it on our profile.

There are a lot of expectations for the upcoming Delegated Act on Low Carbon Fuels. So this morning's event organised by the Hungarian EU Presidency was very timely, and Kitti Nyitrai's presentation most helpful. If I were to summarise in one word the event, it would be #CONSISTENCY. We need consistency between the different legislative texts, consistency to incentive investments in low carbon #hydrogen. But of course much more was said. It is kind of amazing when sectors so diverse agree on the broad picture. 📃Check our Joint Statement: https://lnkd.in/ehsFUn6b
