European Biogas Association

Renewable Energy Semiconductor Manufacturing

The European Biogas Association is the leading European non-governmental organisation promoting renewable gas in Europe.

About us

European Biogas Association (EBA) was founded in February 2009 as a Belgian non-profit organisation aiming to promote the deployment of sustainable biogas production and use in Europe. This covers all energetic applications of biogas like heat, electricity and automotive fuel. EBA’s membership comprises national biogas associations, institutes and companies from over 20 countries all across Europe. The member associations cover the majority of producers, companies, consultants and researchers in the field of biogas within Europe. EBA’s strategy defines three priorities: establish biogas as an important part of Europe’s energy mix, promote source separation of household waste to increase the gas potential and support the production of biomethane as vehicle fuel.

  • Did you know that biogases are affordable, sustainable, and made in Europe? Biogases have the power to break the EU's dependency on natural gas imports with a renewable alternative. Produced sustainably and without competing with food or feed streams, biogases can be a game-changer for Europe's energy future. By 2030, we could produce 44 billion cubic meters of biomethane, enough to cover twice France's current gas consumption. And since it can be injected into the existing gas infrastructure, we can decarbonise the grid without costly investments. A typical biomethane plant powers 🏠 3,700 homes, fuels 🚚 100 bio-LNG trucks, saves 🍃 20,000 tonnes of CO2, and generates 🌱 570 tonnes of organic fertilisers every year. • 🌟 We are thrilled to announce the finalists for the EBA Awards 2024!   These innovative leaders in energy transition and renewables are up for recognition, and YOU can help decide the winners! 🗳️ Vote live during the Awards Ceremony at the #EBAConference on October 23-24. Here are the finalists:   🏆 Green Horizon Narrator Award: · Since 2006, Renera Energy has offered guided tours of their biomethane plants, where over 17,500 people, including students, individuals, and professionals, have learned about the biomethane production process. · CIB - Consorzio Italiano Biogas has a dedicated promotion of the Biogasdoneright® model and the "Farming for Future" project through a variety of events including webinars, field days, and national conventions. 🏆 Safety First Biogas Award  · In 2014, several organisations in the biogas industry, including the Fachverband Biogas e.V. / German Biogas Association, founded the German Training Network Biogas to standardise and improve training for biogas plant operators across Germany. · PRODEVAL prioritises safety in the biogas industry by focusing on facilities, practices and data management. Through its training center, the company offers regulatory programs on process safety and risk management. 🏆 Biogas Problem-solver Award · CPL/Puragen Activated Carbons operates two reactivation facilities in the UK, one for drinking water and one for industrial applications. However, reactivating spent carbon from biogas has been difficult due to high sulfur content, leading to landfill or incineration. After extensive R&D, CPL/Puragen developed a proprietary process called 'CR3', enabling the recycling of high-sulfur spent carbon, preventing waste and pollution across the UK and Europe. · The agriportance GmbH software is designed to optimise and support sustainability certification in the biogas sector. It simplifies GHG and mass balance tracking, streamlines data management, and provides specialised training.   🏆 Women Trailblazer Award  · Anita Bednarek has nearly 15 years of experience in the agricultural biogas industry. She has significantly influenced biogas policies, co-creating the original biogas law and the 2023 Polish Biogas Act. As a member of expert groups for the Ministries of Agriculture and Climate, she promotes renewable energy, ESG, and energy efficiency. · Dr. Miriam Weissroth, a Doctor of Natural Sciences with 25 years of expertise, specialises in digestate from anaerobic digestion and challenging effluent treatment, focusing on water and nutrient recovery. As Head of Research & Product Development at WEHRLE-WERK and now Lundsby Renewable Solutions, she oversees the entire treatment process chain, including solids separation, biological/membrane processes, and advanced technologies.
