European Aluminium on CBAM: The Challenges Ahead 🚨 In a recent Carbon Pulse interview with Frédéric Simon, our Director General, Paul Voss, highlighted the significant challenges facing the European aluminium industry due to the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). Voss underscored the industry's concerns over CBAM’s implementation, particularly the double reporting and taxation issues and the indirect carbon costs that are not fully accounted for, putting European aluminium producers at a competitive disadvantage. 🔑 A key point: “The Commission told us we will be protected by CBAM, and they will remove indirect cost compensation in exchange.” As we navigate these complexities, it’s crucial for the EU to ensure that climate policies are not only effective but also supportive of the aluminium industry's competitiveness in the global market. 📢 📖 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dkRWasNV (Subscription Required) #CBAM #Sustainability #IndustrialCompetitiveness #AluminiumIndustry #EUTrade #Decarbonisation #Aluminium4Europe

Fireside Chat on Europe's Industrial Future! 🌍 In this special edition of our #Aluminium4Europe video series, Marco Mensink from Cefic and our Paul Voss reflect on the insights from the Antwerp Dialogues, discussing the essential role industrial electrification will play in Europe’s green transition. With energy prices still very high and global competition increasing, the need for action is more pressing than ever. They discuss how flexible energy solutions, better grid infrastructure, and tools like Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) can keep the aluminium industry competitive and sustainable in Europe. Overcoming these challenges will require strong cooperation between industry leaders and policymakers. 💪 As highlighted in our latest newsletter, the intersection of decarbonisation and industrial competitiveness is vital for Europe’s future. The recent Draghi report underscores the urgency of lowering energy costs and protecting European industries from international competition. Our manifesto outlines 5 key policy priorities to ensure that Europe’s industrial growth and green energy transition go hand in hand. Check out our manifesto and have a read through our Monthly #Aluminium4Europe newsletter for deeper insights on how Europe can balance sustainability with industrial resilience. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dYj3kata #DraghiReport #EnergyCosts #Decarbonisation #Competitiveness #PPAs #MadeInEurope

Today, EU Ministers joined the Competitiveness Council to address the future of European competitiveness and how to tackle the challenges facing industry in the single market. We’re happy to see that competitiveness and the need for a strong s industrial policy have become top priorities on the EU political agenda, particularly following Mario Draghi’s report and the Antwerp Declaration. The erosion of Europe’s #competitiveness is an ongoing and accelerating process that must be reversed in the next 5 years, or the structural decline described by Draghi will become irreversible and the future of the #MadeInEurope industries is uncertain. In our manifesto, we’ve outlined 5 key policy priorities that can help ensure that the aluminium industry’s decarbonisation goes hand in hand with industrial growth. It's time to deliver green competitiveness for Europe! Take a look back at the #RooftopREconnect event where we brought the good energy to kick-start the new political cycle in Brussels. It was great to be joined by Deputy Director-General of DG ENER Mechthild Wörsdörfer, Sean Kelly MEP, MEP Thomas Pellerin-Carlin, and MEP Benedetta Scuderi to one of Brussels' most iconic rooftops. 🌇 All parties are aligned. The energy transition is contributing to a competitive, prosperous Europe. It's now time to implement the good framework we have, and concentrate on the missing pieces: energy system flexibility and electrification! Thanks also to the organisers AVERE - The European Association for Electromobility, European Heat Pump Association, RECHARGE – European Association of the Advanced Rechargeable & Lithium Batteries Value Chain, and SolarPower Europe. It was great to partner with you on this event! We are stronger together 💪 and look forward to collaborating in the coming months and years to deliver a resilient, prosperous and competitive Europe powered by good energy. #SolarSeptember
