This week, on the margins of the 10th Energy Infrastructure Forum taking place in #Copenhagen, ENTSO-E participated to the roundtable meeting organised by the European Commission focusing on the aspects of supply chains to overcome in order to deliver the EU Grid Action Plan.   Our key messages 👇    🔗Facilitate investments in manufacturing capacity and support strong and sustainable supply chains  ⚡ Speed up grid development and reduce redundancies in planning and execution of projects   💶Keep the added value within the European economy, maintained in the new EU legislative mandates  ♻ Empower Europe’s energy transition and accelerate the path to carbon neutrality    These messages were also reiterated in a joint statement with Europacable and T&D Europe . Together, we are working to ensure the timely roll-out of Europe’s transmission grid infrastructure as a part of the #energytransition.    Thank you to Commissioner Simson for organising this collaborative exchange.   Read more about our statement with Eurocapable and T&D Europe to develop and operate the grid needed to meet the European #decarbonisation targets 👇 https://lnkd.in/e6S25CWM

On behalf of Europacable, Alberto Lampasona, Senior Director Public Affairs, conveyed the following messages at today’s CRU Wire & Cable 2024 conference in Amsterdam. ▶️Europe has all it needs to decarbonise: European cable manufacturers have the technologies, the expertise, the people and the capacities to supply the cables needed to empower Europe’s electrification. ▶️High and extra high voltage land and subsea cables are a strategic, net zero-grid technology. European cable manufacturers are global technology leaders. ▶️European cable manufacturers are actively pushing high sustainability performances both in production and in their products. To ensure the future competitiveness of sustainable European production, these factors need to be valued and accounted for, including in tendering. #CRUwirecable CRU Conferences

Europacable CEOs stressed their commitment to invest more to supply Europe with the cable systems its needs to deploy its decarbonisation plans. To safeguard Europe’s grid technology sovereignty, to ensure a sustainable energy transition “made in Europe for Europe” and to secure their global technology leadership, European cable manufacturers urged EU and national actors to account for: ➡️Confirmed demand visibility beyond 2030; ➡️Fair market conditions; and ➡️Sustainability to be factored in, including in tendering processes and public procurement. Europe’s leading cable manufacturer’s CEOs praised Mrs Simson for the prominent visibility that the EU Commission and all EU Institutions have placed on electricity networks and grid technologies over the last two years. They urged that these should remain at the centre of the EU policy agenda for the next legislative term. Europacable and their member companies confirmed their determination to work with the new EU Institutions to empower Europe’s sustainable decarbonisation.

With over €4bn of investments announced in 2023, Europe’s leading cable manufacturers are responding to the increased demand for land and submarine cables to connect offshore renewables and interconnect Europe. With that, the grid technology components like cables will be available. This said, a bottleneck may arise from securing sufficient skilled engineers and project managers to build Europe’s future grids. To attract and keep future talent, Europe’s grid technology companies need to be attractive, vibrant and successful. For European cable manufacturers to secure their global technology leadership, the following three needs have to be accounted for: ➡️𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝟐𝟎𝟑𝟎; ➡️𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬; 𝐚𝐧𝐝 ➡️𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐁𝐀𝐌 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐑𝐌𝐀.
