To boost #competitiveness in the EU, Mario #Draghi recommends looking at the broader picture to truly transform our energy systems — especially the rising costs of decarbonisation: “Policy decisions should as such not solely be based on the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) associated with each project or technology, but should account for the increasing overall system cost associated with the decarbonisation of the economy.” We could not agree more: ⚡️ Grid and system integration, flexibility, storage, redispatch, and demand flexibility are critical areas that need attention to ensure a smooth transition. 🔋 Variable renewable energy, while crucial, does not provide firm power. To ensure a balanced and resilient energy system, we must invest in flexible power generation and robust networks to balance renewable power efficiently. ✅ Policy decisions must focus not only on the cost of electricity but on equivalent firm power, ensuring energy security while keeping system costs in check. 🌍🔌 The ongoing review of the Network Code on Requirements for Generators (NC RfG) aims to streamline and harmonise grid connection requirements across the EU, paving the way for a future-proof, sustainable energy system. 🌱⚡ However, two key issues need urgent attention: 1️⃣ Aggregation rules: There is a lack of clarity on how power-generating units can be grouped together for connection to the grid. Without clear guidelines, this can delay projects and limit renewable energy integration. 2️⃣ Compliance Certification: We need a clear system to certify that power generation equipment meets EU standards. This will ensure grid stability, speed up certification and improve compliance across the EU power system. EUGINE – The European Engine Power Plants Association and co-signers urge ACER and the European Commission to act swiftly and resolve these issues. Without clarity on these, the energy market risks stalling and investments slowing. 💡 EUTurbines - European Association of Gas and Steam Turbine Manufacturers | COGEN EUROPE | EUROPGEN | WindEurope | SolarPower Europe | Verband akkreditierter Zertifizierungsgesellschaften e.V.
