About us
EuChemS, the European Chemical Society, aims to nurture a platform for scientific discussion and to provide an unbiased European voice on key policy issues in chemistry and related fields. EuChemS has been active since 1970, and today represents more than 160,000 chemists from 50 Member Societies and other chemistry related organisations. EuChemS relies on a unique network of active researchers involved in all fields of chemistry. Through this network, EuChemS organises several specialised academic conferences as well as the biannual EuChemS Chemistry Congress, the European congress of chemical sciences. EuChemS also promotes the role and image of the chemical sciences among the general public and policy-makers through social media, newsletters and through the organisation of conferences and workshops open to citizens. Through the promotion of chemistry and by providing expert and scientific advice, EuChemS aims to take part in the solutions to today´s major societal challenges.

As Floris Rutjes, EuChemS Vice-President said in his address at the closing ceremony of the 9th EuChemS Chemistry Congress (ECC9): what a week it was! Such an excellent congress deserved a similarly excellent closing session, which involved two EuChemS award ceremonies. First, Floris Rutjes presented the EuChemS Award for Service to Robert Parker from the Royal Society of Chemistry for his long-standing support in championing EuChemS's goals. Next, came the exciting announcement of the two Gold and Silver medallists of the EuChemS Young Chemists' Award. In the PhD category, the silver medal was received by Sara Ferrara, and the gold medal was presented to Marie Perrin. In the Early Career Researcher category, Michael Howlett is the silver medallist, and Gianluigi Albano received the Gold Medal. The honours were presented by Gianluca Farinola, Floris Rutjes and Maximilian Menche. We would like to congratulate to the awardees, as well as all finalists, who all presented excellent chemistry. A presentation from Thomas Vranken followed the awards, giving a little taste of what is to come at the next EuChemS Chemistry Congress #ECC10 which will be co-organised by KVCV in Antwerp, Belgium in 2026. At the end, Chemistry Ireland president Pat Guiry formally closed #ECC9. We were delighted to attend such an outstanding event, and we are looking forward to seeing you all in Antwerp, in 2026. We would like to kindly thank everyone who contributed to the success, and attended this excellent event!

9th EuChemS Chemistry Congress (ECC9) carries on with excellent scientific and social programmes. Yesterday, the finalists of the EuChemS Young Chemists' Award held their presentations at the session organised by European Young Chemists' Network (EYCN) in front of a live audience. In the evening, delegates gathered for a congress dinner at a special location, at the Croke Park GAA (Gaelic football and hurling) stadium. EuChemS President Angela Agostiano and Vice President Floris Rutjes were there alongside many prominent members of the European chemistry community.

The 2nd day of the 9th EuChemS Chemistry Congress (ECC9) yesterday was just as stellar as the opening - here are some EuChemS highlights! Athina Anastasaki delivered an excellent lecture on polymer chemistry after accepting the EuChemS Lecture Award award from EuChemS President Angela Agostiano. Meanwhile, an outstanding science-policy panel was organised by European Young Chemists' Network (EYCN), with EuChemS Vice President Floris Rutjes, Frances Arnold from American Chemical Society and Helen Pain MBE from Royal Society of Chemistry.
