Great to participate in the Interferry Conference 2024 with industry leaders of the ferry industry ⚓ ECSA SG Sotiris Raptis, delivered a keynote on the Green Transition from a European perspective. Great insights on the uptake of clean fuels from Claes Berglund, former ECSA President and Director of Public Affairs and Sustainability at Stena AB and from Torben Carlsen, ECSA Board member and CEO of DFDS. Sotiris’ key points were: 📍 The Draghi report recognised the key role of shipping to Europe's security and the need to ensure its international competitiveness 📍We need all hands on deck to scale up production of clean fuels for shipping and cover the enormous price gap with clean fuels 📍The European Maritime Industrial Strategy must acknowledge the need to invest in new skills for the green and digital transition of shipping- 800k seafarers need to be reskilled for the green transition by mid-2030. Thank you to ECSA’s associate observer Interferry, and to Mike Corrigan and Johan Roos for the invitation and the excellent organization and discussions. #AllHandsOnDeck #SustainableShipping

ECSA President Karin Orsel participated in a panel discussion on the energy transition of shipping at the biennial conference Shipping Route İstanbul - SHIPROUTE of the Turkish Coastal Shipping Association ⚓ Her key points were: ➡ The Draghi report recognised the key role of shipping to Europe's security and the need to ensure its international competitiveness. ➡ The report highlights that shipping is one of the most difficult sectors to decarbonise requiring nearly €40 billion of annual investments. ➡ We need all hands on deck to cover the enormous price gap between conventional and clean fuels that can be up to five times more expensive. ➡ EU ETS revenues should bridge the price gap between clean and conventional fuels, notably via dedicated calls for shipping under the EU Innovation Fund. ➡ The energy transition is a great opportunity for Europe to increase investments in clean tech and fuels and enhance the international competitiveness of the maritime cluster. #AllHandsOnDeck #SustainableShipping
