  • 📰 EFIEES' weekly news from the EU bubble! Our team has selected the most relevant news related to EFIEES' activities from the past week, to keep you informed about developments within the EU Bubble. Here are the highlights of the week: 🌟 The EU discusses the revision of the Governance of the Energy Union Regulation. 🌟 Hungary's compromise on the Energy Taxation Directive excludes maritime and aviation fuels to advance other aspects on the proposal. 🌟 NGOs urge the Europen Commission to take legal action on flawed climate plans. 🌟 The International Energy Agency releases Energy Efficiency 2024 report on global energy efficiency trends. 🌟 Commissioners-designate Dan Jørgensen and Wopke Hoekstra answer MEPs' questions during their European Parliament hearings.

  • We are delighted to have participated in the EHP Summit on November 5th and 6th! 🌟   Key takeaways from this event notably include crucial discussions on the decarbonisation of EU heating section, the European energy security, and district cooling solutions, all of which are and will be at the heart of the EU’s energy transition and adaptation to climate change.   Special focus was on ensuring that the EU green transition is affordable and competitive, with an emphasis on the vital role of energy efficiency and district heating and cooling. We were especially inspired by contributions from Krzysztof Bolesta, Deputy Minister of Poland's Climate & Environment Ministry, and Tomasz Surma from Veolia Poland and member of EFIEES’ Board, who highlighted the importance of energy efficiency and citizens' behaviour in EU energy transition, as well as the need for a stable regulatory framework and a strong implementation of the Fit for 55 Package, to achieve the EU's climate goals. #EHPSummit #BringHeatHome #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #EUClimateAction #EnergyEfficiency

  • Spotlights today at FEDENE Congress on two key enablers of a competitive energy transition! ⚡ Energy management solutions increase energy performance and competitiveness, while district heating networks show a high return in CO2 reduction for public support to greening their energy mix. Stability is crucial to develop projects.   Among the many takeaways, stability of public support schemes is crucial to provide operators for predictable market signals, allowing them to initiate and deploy projects. Among the tools to be set up by policy makers, more attention should be paid the ratio “CO2 avoided/€ invested” when selecting publicly supported projects. For instance, in DHC and in industry, the cost of 1 CO2 avoided ton is 36 €, which is remarkably low. Moreover, the role of waste heat is underlined to decarbonise heating and cooling, with a widely untapped potential of 100 TWh in France. Last but not least, planning H&C needs/sources at local and national level, combined with the national buildings renovation strategies, allows for identifying actions, priorities, resources, and is integral to a successful, competitive, affordable energy transition. #EnergyEfficiency #Decarbonisation #DistrictHeating #EnergyTransition #ClimateAction

  • 📢 In yesterday’s hearing, Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner-designate for Energy and Housing, highlighted key priorities for Europe’s future. It was great to hear him reinforce that "most investments in energy efficiency will result in substantial benefits," a win for energy efficiency and EU competitiveness! 🇪🇺   We’ll be keeping a close eye on the proposals and objectives of the commissioners-designate in the coming days, including Teresa Ribera, Vice-President-designate for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, Stéphane Séjourné, Vice-President-designate for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, and Wopke Hoekstra, Commissioner-designate for Climate, Net Zero, and Clean Growth. Their insights will be crucial in shaping a strong and sustainable energy strategy for Europe.   #EnergyEfficiency #EUEnergy #Sustainability #ClimateAction #CleanEnergy #EUCompetitiveness

  • EFIEES will continue its focus on the Public hearings, paying particular attention to one of the first hundred-day deliverables: the Clean Industrial Deal, co-led by Teresa Ribera and Stéphane Séjourné, that will serve as an action plan with measures like the Industrial Decarbonisation Accelerator Act for energy-intensive industries, an Affordable Energy Prices plan 💡, and a roadmap to simplify State Aid rules - key for EFIEES to better support ESCOs and Energy Performance Contracting (EnPCs).   The implementation of the Fit-for-55 package is also a priority for EFIEES. Good to see that it is also high on the future Commission’s agenda, together with a 90% emission reduction target by 2024 📉.   The forthcoming Affordable Housing plan 🏠 will address energy renovation, promoting energy efficiency in housing, and tackling energy poverty - where guaranteed energy performance contracting has a key role.   A very much needed initiative we hope to hear during the public hearings would be the revision of the 2016 EU Strategy for Heating and Cooling! 🔥 #EU #EnergyTransition #Decarbonisation #EnergyEfficiency #CleanEnergy #EUClimate

  • 📰 EFIEES' weekly news from the EU bubble! Our team has selected the most relevant news related to EFIEES' activities from the past week, to keep you informed about developments within the EU Bubble. Here are the highlights of the week: 🌟 Discussions on the revision of the Energy Taxation Directive (ETD) achieve limited progress 🌟 EU ambassadors call for revisions to the Budapest Competitiveness Declaration, willing to emphasize energy interconnections, quicker project approvals, and price response. 🌟 49 financial institutions join the European Energy Efficiency Financing Coalition 🌟 EU greenhouse gas emissions fell 8.3% in 2023, driven by renewable energy growth and a 16.5% drop in industrial and power emissions. 🌟 The European Environment Agency publishes Trends and Projections in Europe 2024 report, highlighting progress in emissions reductions, renewable energy, and energy efficiency across EU Member States.

  • 📅 We are on the verge of a new EU five-year mandate, with Members of the European Parliament to start the process of “grilling” each Commissioner-designate during public parliamentary hearings from 5th to 12th November. 🇪🇺   If confirmed, four designate Commissioners will lead energy-related portfolios: Vice-President Stéphane Séjourné on industrial strategy, Vice-President Teresa Ribera on clean transition and competition, Dan Jørgensen on energy and housing, and Wopke Hoekstra on climate action.   EFIEES sees a key opportunity to demonstrate how energy efficiency and management are crucial to the EU’s competitiveness and decarbonisation goals, particularly for industry. Thermal solutions alongside electrification will remain essential for decarbonising heating and cooling. And as we look ahead to the 2027-2033 MFF, financing the energy transition will be increasingly vital.   Read Stéphane Séjourné's mission letter: https://shorturl.at/Tw0Ld Read Teresa Ribera's mission letter: https://shorturl.at/5GdWH Read Dan Jørgensen's mission letter: https://shorturl.at/Tvkuq Read Wopke Hoekstra's mission letter: https://shorturl.at/pAIiP #EU #EnergyTransition #Decarbonisation #EnergyEfficiency #CleanEnergy #EUClimateAction
