🚀 Let's raise our voices for Manufacturing Excellence in Europe! 🚀 🤝 Sign the Manufacturing & Research Innovation Petition - https://lnkd.in/gp4k2jPy As a collective, the signatories of this petition urge policymakers to intensify their efforts in manufacturing and increase the allocation of funds for applied research in this sector. 🏭🔬 European manufacturing has long been a cornerstone of our wealth, security, and comfort. Historically, Europe has led the way in technological innovation, and we believe it’s time to reclaim our position as global leaders in producing the most innovative products and systems. 🌍✨ Manufacturing is not just a sector; it's a catalyst for a prosperous future. It creates quality jobs, enables circular production, addresses skills shortages, decarbonises transport and energy, adapts to societal changes, and develops defence systems. By prioritising this sector, we are securing a brighter future for Europe. 💼♻️🔋 Support for manufacturing research is essential at all levels. In Framework Programme 10, we call for doubling the funding for manufacturing research, especially through the Made in Europe Partnership, to attract industry and deliver faster & better results. 📈💡 We must enhance collaboration between the Made in Europe Partnership and sector-specific initiatives. A unified approach to manufacturing challenges is crucial. 🤝🔗 Let's champion manufacturing and keep Europe at the forefront of innovation! 🇪🇺💪 Sign the petition - https://lnkd.in/gp4k2jPy #Manufacturing #Innovation #Research #Europe #MadeInEurope #SustainableGrowth #TechInnovation #PolicyChange Željko P. The ENGINE project focuses on enhancing the heavy manufacturing industry, using the marine sector as its use case, by optimising the supply value chain from start to finish. To do this effectively, the project faces challenges from two main directions – developing and maintaining existing manufacturing processes and products while improving performance, as well as developing new methodologies that deliver more sustainable and greener machines. Firstly, there’s the performance-oriented challenge: the marine sector deals with costly and technically complex products and components. Any unexpected downtime or unforeseen issues not covered in the design phase of the machine will face significant operational costs while problems are resolved. Improving the design, manufacture, and operation of these large marine products is, therefore, crucial – and digitised manufacturing processes will help with this. Secondly, there’s a significant thrust towards sustainability and decarbonisation in the marine industry which involves transitioning to sustainable fuels such as green fuels and e-fuels. However, integrating these new fuels poses technical challenges for existing technologies, while developing new technologies that use these new fuels and operate more sustainably is also a challenge. To move towards decarbonisation, these technical challenges must be addressed while, at the same time, the sustainability and circularity in the industry must also be improved. The focus of the ENGINE project, therefore, is to develop methodologies and underlying processes that can be applied in the marine sector but can also be used elsewhere across other heavy manufacturing industries. Competing effectively in today’s ever-changing global markets necessitates manufacturing firms to continually explore innovative production strategies, leveraging advanced digital technologies to enhance flexibility, productivity, quality, environmental sustainability, and cost efficiency. The advent of Industry 4.0 has facilitated the rapid evolution of digital technologies, helping to manage production complexity and enhance data-driven decision-making. However, despite the maturation of these technologies, their integration with other advanced production methods remains limited. Modern production paradigms must thus integrate complementary technologies to cover various facets of manufacturing decision-making. Zero-defect manufacturing (ZDM) represents a disruptive approach that harnesses advanced digital technologies within quality, production, and maintenance management to elevate production performance. Rooted in strategies of detection, prevention, prediction, and repair, ZDM aims to eliminate defects, enhance product quality, and improve flexibility, and productivity, while also reducing costs and resource usage across industrial ecosystems.
