Your end-to-end platform for Statistical Design of Experiments.

About us

Plan and analyze your experiments in the most efficient way. We save time, resources and manpower, by making physical testing more efficient and sustainable, and accelerating your innovation. Abandon trial & error, forget one-factor-at-a-time experimentation and plan your experiments with EFFEX. Design of Experiments has been around for a very long time, as has existing software. EFFEX offers a novel view and approach to Design of Experiments. At KU Leuven’s Biostatistics group, under the guidance of Prof. Peter Goos, Dr. Ir. José Núñez Ares did extensive research on cost-efficient experimental plans and multi-criteria selection of experimental plans, resulting in a unique approach to Design of Experiment which outperforms existing methodologies. Based on the customer feedback we are building a future proof, web-based end-to-end platform. Not legacy software, but a platform that answers to today's requirements for users, who demand the most efficient experimental plans.

Did you know that car parts like dashboards and bumpers are often made from polypropylene? 🚗 It’s a great material—lightweight, affordable, and recyclable! But there’s a problem: polypropylene doesn’t naturally stick well to coatings or glues. That’s why gas plasma treatment is used to make it adhesive-friendly. The big question is: How to find the best treatment settings? 🔍 Producers must pick the right gas type, treatment time, flow rate, and power to make the process as quick and cost-effective as possible. With DoE, they could test different gases and settings (like power, time, and flow rate) in a systematic way to find the perfect fit. This data helped build an expert system that now recommends the best treatment for any blend of materials—no more guesswork or trial and error. Now, the industry has a reliable, efficient method for bonding polypropylene— ensuring budget and quality! 👉 Read more about how DoE tackled this challenge! https://lnkd.in/ejnjZGwS #PolypropyleneInnovation #GasPlasmaTreatment #AutomotiveSolutions #designofexperiments Effex

🍇🍈🍉 Using DoE to extract functional food ingredients from fruit and vegetable waste 🍅🍆🥕 One of challenges along the food supply chain is to reduce the food losses. One way to do so is to extract functional food ingredients from side streams in fruit and vegetable processing. One functional food ingredient that can be extracted from these side streams is pectin. Pectin serves as a thickening agent and stabilizer in food. ➡️ Ideally, the pectin extraction has a high yield and the extraction time is short. One promising technique is ultrasound-assisted extraction. To explore the possibilities of ultrasound-assisted extraction and to identify the optimal settings for the extraction in an efficient way, Elien De Laet, Tom Bernaerts, Kim De Cock en Ann M. Van Loey, Peter Goos (all KU Leuven) and Jose Núñez Ares ( Effex ) performed a designed experiment. A designed experiment is nothing but a smart, systematic data collection method, which provides a maximum of information concerning the relation between the settings of the extraction process and its yield. Designed experiments are also known as DoEs, which is short for design of experiments. The DoE approach eventually led to a pectin yield of 57.2%, while the conventional extraction only resulted in a pectin yield of 37.4%. The DOE approach indicated that, with the ultrasound-assisted extraction, it is also possible to obtain yields similar to those of the conventional extraction in much shorter extraction times. The experimental plan actually used for the study was a mixed-level OMARS experimental design to study the impact of six different extraction parameters on the pectin yield. The study showed that pH had the most pronounced effect on the pectin yield. However, also the solvent used, as well as the ultrasound intensity (time and temperature) impacted the yield substantially. OMARS experimental designs are available in the Effex software ➡️ see https://lnkd.in/e6n-Vim9. #FoodInnovation #SustainableExtraction #UltrasoundTech #PectinYield #optimization #designofexperiments

Effex software is the work of many great junior and senior statisticians who have done groundbreaking work over the past years. We want to recognize the work of Dr. Alan Vázquez who did his PhD at the University of Antwerp in 2018 and show how academic work contributes to innovation in business software. Our data analytic tools are based on his work. Alan proposed an effective method to analyze data from screening experiments, which are used to find the factors that drive a quality characteristic (response) of a product or process. The philosophy behind the method is that the user can generate information on the important effects of the factors by looking at high-quality models that link them to the response. Interestingly, the method can be used to analyze general data sets with the goal of identifying the important variables among several. Alan is currently a research professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering at Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico.
