Last week, FIBROTARGET co-coordinator Gianluca Matteoli (KU Leuven) presented at the International Congress of Mucosal Immunology (#ICMI2024) in Copenhagen, Denmark. The meeting focuses exclusively on the interface between the immune system and the environment at mucosal surfaces, and serves as a space for cross-fertilisation among 🔬 scientists, clinical researchers and industry professionals working on pathways of immunity and #inflammation at mucosal surfaces. Dr. Matteoli spoke about identifying pathogenic #fibroblasts in #IBD and molecular targets 🎯 to disrupt their function, using data from human and functional experiments in mice. 👏 Great work done to him and his team for advancing our cause in improving prevention, care and treatment for fibrostenosis and intestinal fibrosis in IBD👏

Meet Sara, the new LEGO minifigure with a stoma bag! Sara is more than just a toy—she helps to raise awareness, reduce stigma and promoting acceptance for those living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and ostomies. Thank you, LEGO, for your commitment to inclusivity and diversity! #IBDawareness #IBDpatientcommunity #ostomies
In the photo, you can see our youngest holding a Lego set. No, it's not for him. It's for me. I had to have this set because it includes the minifigure Sara. And Sara has a stoma! My daughter, who used to build Lego Friends sets when she was young, explained that Lego Friends faced criticism for a lack of diversity. Apparently, Lego listened carefully and responded. They introduced minifigures with hearing aids, in wheelchairs, and now even with a stoma. What's particularly striking is that Sara not only has a scar but also a grey pouch that closely resembles a Sensura Mio. Additionally, Sara is shown swimming in a pool and enjoying the water. the LEGO Group has done something fantastic here; they’ve helped reduce the stigma around having a stoma in an instant ... and at a very young age already Please applaud LEGO for this amazing level of inclusivity. Isn't this amazing love branding? Listening and responding. Coloplast #taboo #lego #stoma

Three questions for Sarah van Zon, PhD candidate clinical research, Amsterdam UMC: ❓ What makes this study unique compared to other research being conducted on Crohn’s disease? 💁♀️ “This study is unique because it focuses on the predictive power of DNA methylation patterns for therapy response. While most Crohn’s disease researches emphasize genetic mutations or inflammatory biomarkers, this study investigates the role of epigenetic biomarkers, leading to a new perspective on therapy response prediction. In addition, this research emphasizes the importance of epigenetic modifications in the pathophysiology of complex diseases such as Crohn’s disease and Psoriasis, leading to advancements in precision medicine.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eDGs9Gmq #METHYLOMIC #epigenetics #crohn #colitis #psoriasis
