*** Ethnic Data Registration under EU Law *** In today’s data-driven world, processing ethnic data presents both opportunities and challenges. Ethnic data processing is an area filled with complexity, touching on aspects of identity, culture, and belonging, but unfortunately also bringing potential for prejudice and discrimination. In a conference organised by Meijers Committee, Supervisor Wojciech Wiewiorowski's Keynote speech highlighted the risks involved in processing sensitive data and the essential need for robust data protection standards. "Ethnic data processing is an area filled with complexity, touching on aspects of identity, culture, and belonging, but unfortunately also bringing potential for prejudice and discrimination" the Supervisor said. "The handling of ethnic data relates directly to fundamental rights, social justice, and equality. While it can serve as a powerful tool to combat discrimination and promote inclusion, it also presents serious risks to individual privacy and societal cohesion". #DataProtection #EthnicData #SocialJustice #EDPS

We spent last few days in the island of Jersey taking part in 46th Global Privacy Assembly (in the past known also as the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners). I have organized this event twice (2013 in Warsaw and 2018 in Brussels). *** Global Privacy Assembly *** 46th Global Privacy Assembly week is on! EDPS Wojciech Wiewiorowski will take part in the open and closed sessions of the event organised by Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner that focuses on "𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗶". Data Protection Authorities worldwide will discuss how to respect and balance the power of information with the need for citizens across the world to have power, control, and dignity over their personal information. In today's panel titled "Data Protection & Mental Health - How do we protect society's most vulnerable? The role of the individual vs. the role of society in health data sharing", Wojciech Wiewiorowski discussed with Davida Blackmore, Alvaro Bedoya and Dan Holloway on health data sharing, collective benefits, legal and ethical consequences. #GPA24
