💥 WAKE-UP CALL 💥 Almost 1 in 2 Belgians is at risk of being digitally excluded. In 2 years there has been an increase in this risk from 40% of all Belgians between 16 and 75 years up to 46%. The digital acceleration, partly caused by the corona crisis, is not being followed by the Belgian population at the same pace. The gap is widening. In all ages and ranks. Striking: digital literacy is also declining among young people. 🙌 Relaunch DigitAll's working groups!   We enjoyed bringing together over 30 members & ambassadors of our ecosystem that are actively contributing to our working groups.   We kicked off the day with a networking lunch, providing a great opportunity for everyone to reconnect. Following that, we dived into simultaneous sessions, each focusing on strategic priorities we defined together with the ecosystem. The day concluded with a collaborative session between all the groups where we shared our progress and discussed strategies for tackling the upcoming steps!   A big thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the productive workshops. 🎤 Setting digital inclusion on the agenda at UCLL! Yesterday, we  presented DigitAll’s activities to close the digital divide to 200 2nd year students of computer science.  We took the opportunity to present our Digital Inclusion by Design Index, a valuable tool for creating more digitally inclusive websites and applications. By focusing on our 7 criteria from the start, we can build a digital environment that is accessible to everyone. It was a pleasure to interact, exchange, and share our approach to digital inclusion. The interest and engagement of the students were appreciated and motivating! 🙌 Thank you to Kevin Huysegoms for providing this platform and to all the students who participated. 📢 Back to School ! 🎒 As we dive into the new school year, it’s crucial to ensure that our youngsters are well-equipped and informed for the digital challenges ahead. With the latest insights from the King Baudouin Foundation’s Digital Inclusion Barometer highlighting gaps in digital access and skills among young people, now is the perfect time to focus on digital readiness. Here are some interesting and helpful links to help students start the school year on the right digital foot: 1. Access to Devices:    - Digital for Youth: they refurbish and distribute laptops to organisations (not for profit) & schools for students and youngsters in need across Belgium. 2. Digital Literacy:    - Mediawijs: digital literacy center that offers resources and workshops to help young people build essential digital skills.   - WeTechCare Belgium with https://lnkd.in/duMdmsv   - BeCode.org - BeCode is a Belgian coding school that offers free, intensive training programs in digital skills and coding, aimed at helping people from all backgrounds transition into tech careers.   - MolenGeek - MolenGeek is a tech and entrepreneurship hub, that provides training, co-working spaces, and support to help people from diverse backgrounds break into the tech industry. 3. Safe Online Practices:    - Belgian Cyber Security Coalition: with their insightful podcasts The Fraudster, The Hacker & You! (https://lnkd.in/dkf6qfE9)   - Child Focus Belgium: This Belgian foundation offers resources and education on safe internet practices for children and teenagers.   - Edubox : a lot of our ambassadors have participated in creating it such as Belgian Cyber Security Coalition, DNS Belgium, Digital for Youth, Mediawijs, and a few more! 4. Inclusive Tools:   - Smartschool (Smartbit bvba): A widely used digital learning platform in Belgian schools that supports various learning styles with its diverse tools. 5. Support Networks:   - Buddy systems by BSF Belgium, WeTechCare Belgium & Mediawijs. The Buddy System pairs experienced individuals with newcomers or those needing support to enhance their digital literacy, providing guidance and personalized assistance in navigating technology and online resources. Let’s ensure that every student enters the new school year ready to succeed, both online and offline. 📢 Back to School series about digital inclusion challenges for youngsters. In the upcoming months we will put forward multiple societal challenges linked to digital inclusion. We kick off this series with our Back to School Campaign where we highlight important numbers & actionable insights. The latest numbers from the King Baudouin Foundation’s Digital Inclusion Barometer (June 2024), point out a crucial demographic—young people in Belgium. 📊 While we assume that all young people are digitally savvy, the reality is more complex. The Barometer reveals gaps in access, skills, and opportunities among youngsters that we cannot ignore.  30 % of youngsters between 16 - 24 years old in Belgium have weak digital skills... The numbers rises to 52% if you zoom in on youngsters with a low level of education. These findings are a call to action for all of us to ensure that the next generation is equipped with the tools and support they need to fully participate in the digital world.
