Give us a policy challenge and we make it fun to learn about it! For a local youth club, we made red and blue teaming cards so they can learn about election security and defense. 💙♥️🎉
How can young people learn about election security and information campaigns? Here is one way! It's elections this weekend in Brandenburg, the state I grew up in. Wanting to contribute something in the run up. We organized an event with the local youth club. Using the paper Dr. Sven Herpig and I wrote on election security and incorporating the work of Dr. Anna-Katharina (Kathy) Meßmer and Alexander Sängerlaub on news competency, I made a *card game* that the youth could use to play Red and Blue Teams and attack the upcoming elections. In the tour de table at the beginning I learned that they do not have any prior Cybersecurity knowledge, they didn't know what exactly was digitized in the election but in the process of 90mins. ✅Team Red ♥️ came up with realistic attacks defining correctly the motivation of the attack, the tactic and attack vector ✅ Team Blue 💙 analysed their weaknesses and responded with the measures to protect, detect an incident or increase resilience. A lot of laughs also when the same defense mechanisms was played again and again. :D Can you guess which ones? I'm so proud of them! :) We afterwards analysed election programs over pizza. 😍
