This time last week, we wrapped up our 2024 General Assembly (GA) which took place in the historic city of Barcelona, hosted by our member organisation Consorci de Comerç, Artesania i Moda de Catalunya ! Every year, our GA takes place in a different country and brings together our network of nearly 40 craft organisations from across the European continent to discuss, share and collaborate around the topic of #crafts and how we can work together on this common mission. The days were filled with interesting discussions about the current state of crafts: from the new EU legislations on geographical indications; how to boost the inert sustainability of crafts within other sectors; the taxation of craft; skills training and transmission; as well as further steps for the advocacy work being undertaken by the organisation. Members presented their current and future projects and shared ideas and common challenges being faced in their countries regarding the future of crafts. During the three day programme, the WCCE presented the range of activities and results that the organisation has achieved over the past year through our programming; networking and EU projects - with discussions being focussed on the future of our proudly diverse, lively and dynamic association. Members were also treated to a programme of unique local experiences including a special lecture and tour of the Sagrada Familia; the craft workshops of the Poble Espanyol village; a tour of the archive and facilities of the Disseny Hub Barcelona and a fascinating sit-down with Materfad where we explored cutting-edge material innovations. Expert consultants and researchers are invited to submit their proposals for conducting a comprehensive study on cross-cutting priorities for the 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 and the 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞. The aim is to provide a useful tool in the form of a report for our members and stakeholders to continue supporting the European crafts sector by developing targeted projects based on those opportunities and the findings of the previous 4 studies developed during the CRAFTING project.
