📈 New data on container glass collection for recycling in Europe is now available! The EU’s glass value chain sustains a steady 80.2% glass packaging collection rate with record volume of collected glass 💪 💬 “More glass packaging was collected in 2022 than ever before, reaching a record level of 12.4 million tonnes, representing an increase of about 542 000 tonnes over the previous year. Only working together we can boost the glass collection for recycling rate towards achieving our 90% goal. 🌍♻️ The goal of #ClosetheGlassLoop is to reach a 90% collection for recycling rate of glass packaging by 2030 in the EU. Each part of the value chain plays a crucial role in reaching this objective and as a result, every decision has an impact on all the other parts – starting with the decision to establish a separate collection system for glass packaging. From the beginning, we have focused our efforts on municipalities, to identify opportunities from glass collection and showcase best practices. Now, with the release of the “Roadmap to Optimise Closed Loop Recycling of Glass Packaging,” we aim to spotlight the industrial part of the value chain, aiming at guaranteeing maximum outputs from all collected glass. From our “Performance of Packaging Glass Recycling in Europe” report, we estimate that 91% of all glass that is recycled is recycled in a closed loop. Can we go even further?
