Interesting read in the Belgian Newspaper De Tijd today about negative energy prices on the day ahead electricity market. Already this year we are reaching the same amount of negative Belpex hours as last year. Energy control can help you manage your installation under these conditions and save money. The Circular Energy Manager can help you navigate these lower energy prices. An example from one of our sites, where our energy management system is operational. You can see in the screenshot: 1. at negative energy prices, maximum energy is transferred from the grid to the battery and our users on site. In this case, prices went negative to about 70 euro/MWh. 2. Solar curtailment is used when prices are negative 3. Gisteren ging het LOGES project van start in de energiebrouwerij van de Traaise Energie Maatschappij. De Traaise Energie Maatschappij realiseert een innovatief warmtenet voor 2600 bestaande en nieuwbouw woningen, een zwembad en stadsgebouw in Terheijden, de gemeente Drommelen, bij Breda in Nederland. De duurzame warmte produceren ze nu met elektriciteit van een eigen 5.7 MW windmolen en e-boiler. Op kort termijn staat ook een groot zonneveld, koude / warmte opslag met warmtepompen en uitbreiding van het warmtenet op de planning. De Traaise Energie Maatschappij heeft onder meer het Traais Energie Collectief (TEC) als aandeelhouder waarin bewoners financieel mee participeren in het project. LOGES gaat over LOkale GEïntegreerde Energie Systemen. Dit zijn energiesystemen waar de lokale productie van warmte, koude en elektriciteit binnen eenzelfde energiesysteem gekoppeld zijn. Het is een Interreg Vlaanderen-Nederland project dat de praktijkervaring bij demosites Interleuven, DuCoop en de Traaise Energie Maatschappij vertaalt naar leerlessen voor replicatie in zowel Vlaanderen als Nederland met partners Flux50 en Techniek Nederland. Voor dit project zal Circular de kritische succesfactoren op vlak van juridische, organisatorische, financiële en slimme sturings-zaken in kaart brengen. Gedurende het project is het mogelijk om rond deze onderwerpen in interactie te treden met het consortium. Dit met onder meer workshops waarin we onze kennis en ervaringen delen. Op het einde van het project geven we een online masterclass geïntegreerde energiesystemen. Geïnteresseerd? 💡 A Critical and Important Question for SMEs: With battery costs ranging from €300-600 per kWh, investing in the right battery size is crucial. A miscalculated battery could cost you thousands. To determine the optimal size, you have two options: 🙈 Seek advice from the seller ✊ Have it thoroughly calculated with a simulation of our Circular Energy manager. Our simulation tool precisely calculates how much your energy bill would have been last year with different battery sizes. This allows you to fine-tune the size and ensure a high return on your investment for every last kWh invested. Our tool combines the following revenue models:  🔋 Maximization of self-consumption  📉 Peak-shaving and day-ahead trading  ⚖️ Balancing services on the imbalance market Take a look at the results of one such simulation, for an SME with an energy usage of 112 MWh/year and solar installation of 125 kW. - The first 75 kWh would have resulted in a return on investment about 4-5 years! - If we decide to invest another 25 kWh (up to 100 kWh), the additional capacity only pays for itself in 14.5 years. - This gets even worse the larger the battery becomes. The following 25 kWh (up to 125 kWh) additional capacity would have a return of investment of only 17.5 years. It's clear that a battery up to 75 kWh is a realistic investment with a payback period within the 10-year warranty. Beyond 75 kWh, the return is too low to justify any extra investment in this case. Interestingly, different sellers had recommended 100-150 kWh batteries to the SME, with different return on investments. Curious about how much you could save? 🔄 Harnessing Negative Prices with the Circular Energy Manager! Last Saturday, June 15th, between 14:00 and 15:00, the Day-Ahead prices on the European Energy markets were strongly negative up to -80 Euro/Mwh. During such moments, the Circular Energy Manager offers multiple ways to maximize profit of your installation: ⛱ Curtailment of PV Power: Shut down your own local solar production to avoid injection fees. 📈 Increase Local Demand: Allow more electricity uptake by, for example, directing more power to a cluster of charging stations. 🔋 Maximize Battery Storage: Completely empty the battery to store the maximum amount of cheap negatively priced renewable energy of the grid. If you would have implemented the Circular Energy Manager in your installation, a triple win was generated: ✅ Reduced costs by avoiding injection fees. ✅ Lower energy costs by utilizing negative price periods. ✅ Stored renewable energy at minimal cost. Circular organiseert samen met Vlakwa en DuCoop een community of practice rond stedelijke watergemeenschappen in Vlaanderen. In dit format bespreken we samen met experts in het veld financiële, organisatorische, technologische en wettelijke uitdagingen rond het opzetten van stedelijke watergemeenschappen in Vlaanderen. Het eerste project dat we bezoeken is een collectieve hemelwatergemeenschap in Wiekevorst. Hier heeft Be-rain connect samen met Pidpa voor 33 woningen een mooi en zeer inspirerend project gerealiseerd. Water wordt gedeeld tussen een supermarkt en woningen en maximaal geïnfiltreerd bij overschotten voor het lokale groen. Een collectieve pomp voorziet via een tweede water circuit voor de aanvoer van hemelwater naar de woningen. Nutsinfrastructuur zoals data en elektriciteit worden boven op de hemelwaterputten gelegd en zijn eenvoudig toegankelijk via afneembare betonplaten voor later eenvoudige aanpassingen en onderhoud.
