Distribution network planning under the spotlight: At the European Commission's 10th annual Energy Infrastructure Forum, it was encouraging to see the inclusion of EV charging as a critical component of energy systems. The Forum recognized the urgent need for acceleration, particularly in anticipatory investments. However, the deployment of solutions still falls short of what's required to drive Europe's energy infrastructure forward.⏩ 🔋Our Secretary General, Lucie Mattera, spoke to highlight the importance of network planning for #EVcharging. This is crucial given the increasing time required to access the grid for these projects. She also emphasized the value of detailed public-facing heatmaps to ensure transparency in EV charging deployment. Good to be part of the Energy Infrastructure Forum for the first time and to bring to light the pressing needs of the EV charging industry. #EnergyIF

EU CO2 standards for cars and vans and the 2035 zero-emission target are essential frameworks in building Europe’s industrial future and boosting long-term investments, on top of achieving our decarbonization goals. 🌱 Together with other leading European associations, we call on newly elected EU policy-makers to seize the opportunity offered by the #emobility transition, starting with over 580,000 new jobs. 📈 To accelerate investments and drive a new EU industrial success story, regulatory stability and legal certainty are essential. 💡New position paper released!💡 Smart charging is a game-changer in #emobility, but more needs to be done. 🔋Smart charging adjusts the intensity of electricity delivered to an electric vehicle's battery in real-time based on electronic communication. It can optimize grid capacity by adapting #EV charging to the needs of both the grid and consumers. Smart charging can: ⚡️ increase peak network capacity ⚡️ integrate renewable energy ⚡️ reduce energy curtailment ⚡️ cut grid upgrade costs, saving €29 billion annually and lowering CO2 emissions significantly ⚡️ reduce costs for EV owners. To unlock the full potential of smart charging, existing barriers must be removed. Recent EU legislation is a step in the right direction, but effective implementation is crucial to make smart, fast charging available for all. Check out our latest position paper to learn more:

🚀 Exciting news from Shell for e-HDV! 🚛⚡ Shell just inaugurated its first self-developed Megawatt Charging System (MCS) for electric trucks (and shipping vessels) in Amsterdam! "There are not that many electric trucks and vessels yet, so with this we’re investing ahead of the market that is growing quickly" says Hilmar Van Den Dool, General Manager of #eMobility at Shell. "We want to help decarbonise our customers in the logistics sector." ☀️ Powered by 3,600 solar panels, the megawatt charger is equipped to charge heavy-duty trucks and buses (as well as shipping vessels) simultaneously. It is integrated into a smart microgrid, combining energy supply, storage, and demand. Fantastic to see our member Shell Recharge Solutions' latest achievement in heavy-duty #EVcharging and energy system integration!
