Cerame-Unie congratulates Ursula von der Leyen on her re-election for a second mandate as European Commission President.  In line with the #Ceramic #Manifesto for the 2024-2029 institutional mandate, published in November 2023, we welcome the vision reflected in the Commission President-elect’s Political Guidelines more particularly on #competitiveness and #industrial #policy, #housing and #trade #policy. The Ceramic Manifesto has called for: ➡ An “EU-wide and ambitious industry policy”, including an “industrial chapter in the 2040 EU climate targets” 🎯 & “simplification of administrative & reporting requirements, particularly for #SMEs, and setting KPI’s for reducing regulatory time and cost burdens for companies”; ➡ “#Climate policy for manufacturing” involving multiple measures including an “urgent review of the EU #ETS State Aid Guidelines” under EU #competition policy; ➡ “Promoting #sustainable and #affordable #buildings” 🏨; ➡ And “Ensuring a level playing field through effective trade policy 🚢 and a functioning internal #market”, notably by: ↪ Ensuring fair trading practices by rapidly implementing #trade #defence measures to fight unfair trading practices in third countries 🛡; ↪ Keeping “enforcement” high on the agenda and restoring the long-term practice of designating a “Trade Commissioner” and ensuring that appropriate measures are implemented in a timely manner. Accordingly, the #European #ceramic #industry can only welcome President-elect Von der Leyen’s call in her Political Guidelines presented ahead of the constituting vote of 18 July for: ➡ “A Clean Industrial Deal” 📝; ➡ “Making business easier”, notably by introducing “a new #SME and competitiveness check to help avoid unnecessary administrative burdens, maintaining high standards” or renewing “Interinstitutional agreement on simplification and better law-making” and implying “a new approach to competition policy”; ➡ Tackling the #housing #crisis by putting into place “a first-ever European Affordable Housing Plan” and appointing for this purpose a Commissioner for Housing 🏡. ➡ Under trade policy, as “second pillar of our economic foreign policy”: ↪ Recognising the need to “sustain and improve rules-based trade, including through a reformed and strengthened World Trade Organization”; ↪ At the same time, being “more ambitious in enforcing our trade agreements” and using “all of our #trade #defence instruments where and when needed.” 🛡 We are looking forward to working with the new EU institutions to implement these guidelines and bring our contribution to ensure Europe’s #sustainability with ceramic #manufacturing! Cerame-Unie welcomes the conclusions of the Council of the European Union of 27 June (👉 https://bit.ly/4cqkcnT) setting a #Strategic #Agenda 2024-2029 (👉https://bit.ly/3L9apGu) in line with the conclusion of 17/18 April under the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024, recognising the need for a new #European #Competitiveness #Deal. Cerame-Unie particularly welcomes the European Council’s commitment under this strategic agenda to “pursue an ambitious, robust, open and sustainable trade policy that allows fair trade agreements, opens third country markets to EU companies, defends EU interests, allows resilient and reliable supply chains to develop, guarantees a true level playing field and creates reciprocal market access opportunities” as well as the recognition in the conclusion of the strategic agenda that “industrial strength in key sectors also requires the Union to safeguard fair competition, fight unfair practices, and ensure a level playing field both internally and globally.”   In its Ceramic Manifesto for the 2024-2029 institutional mandate published in November 2023 (👉 https://bit.ly/3R0ubXp), the European ceramic industry called for: 1️⃣ An EU wide and ambitious industrial policy 2️⃣ Climate policy for manufacturing 3️⃣ Energy resources and infrastructure for manufacturing 4️⃣ Promoting sustainable and affordable buildings 5️⃣ Policies contributing to Environmental protection, health & safety and sustainable finance 6️⃣ Ensuring a level playing field through effective trade policy and a functioning internal market 7️⃣ Effective support for Research & Innovation for all ceramic producers 8️⃣ Skills for manufacturing   We call on the new European Competitiveness Deal to take into account these priorities to promote EU #manufacturing, and are looking forward to working with the #Hungarian #Presidency of the #EU.
