The road to net zero for the EU #cement industry requires a significant ramp-up in targeted financial support. Our latest position paper outlines key recommendations to make this possible: 1️⃣ Cement-Specific Decarbonisation Fund: Redirect EU ETS revenues to a dedicated fund supporting breakthrough technologies, ensuring sector-wide transformation 2️⃣ Cleantech Deployment Fund: Transform the ETS Innovation Fund to help scale mature technologies across energy-intensive sectors 3️⃣ 100% of ETS Revenues for Climate Action: Commit all ETS proceeds to climate-focused investments, enhancing transparency and impact To achieve net zero, we need targeted #funding, fair competition, and strong support for industrial innovation. 📥 Read the full position paper to explore how these policies can secure a sustainable, competitive future for cement in Europe and beyond. https://lnkd.in/dCjRJhbD 📽️ Watch our short video to learn more: https://lnkd.in/d8shVJz8
CEMBUREAU
Industry Associations
The European Cement Association. Built in concrete, made with cement.
About us
CEMBUREAU, the European Cement Association, is based in Brussels and it is the representative organisation of the cement industry in Europe. Currently, its members are the national cement industry associations and cement companies of the European Union (except for Malta) plus Norway, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Croatia, Serbia and Slovakia are associate members of CEMBUREAU. Cooperation agreements have been concluded with Vassiliko Cement in Cyprus and UKRCEMENT in Ukraine. The Association acts as spokesperson for the cement industry before the European Union institutions and other public authorities, and communicates the industry’s views on all issues and policy developments with regard to technical, environmental, energy and promotional issues. The European cement industry's ambition is to reach net zero emissions along its value chain by 2050. Visit our website to check out our Carbon Neutrality Roadmap.

Today, we’re following Wopke Hoekstra's hearing as Commissioner-designate for Climate, Net Zero, and Clean Growth. We support his commitment to strengthening #CBAM, advancing carbon pricing, and prioritising carbon capture to drive Europe’s climate ambitions. Yet, we believe more emphasis on dedicated #decarbonisation #funding is essential to reach net zero in sectors like #cement. 📢 At CEMBUREAU, we’re calling for a Cleantech Deployment Fund that expands on the Innovation Fund, along with a robust, watertight CBAM aligned with EU ETS. Together, these will secure the investment needed for breakthrough technologies like #carboncapture while levelling the playing field for EU industry. Ambitious goals require equally ambitious funding and fair competition across borders. 🙌 Find out more in our Net Zero Roadmap: https://lnkd.in/dpe97puD & in our position paper on #financing: https://lnkd.in/dCjRJhbD

Moving towards #netzero, our roadmap envisions significant CO2 cuts for the EU #cement industry over the next decades. Ensuring this vision requires a watertight #CBAM: 💼 Align policies with #EUETS for uniform regulations 🛡️ Ramp up monitoring to ensure compliance and prevent CBAM fraud 📦 Develop strategies for exports that meet WTO standards to prevent leakage 🔗 Explore the details: https://lnkd.in/d8_rK-j7 #Cement2050

Are you producing and exporting #cements to the EU? Then #CBAM – the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism – is relevant for you! As a non-EU producer exporting goods to the EU, you must provide importers with data on the greenhouse gas emissions released during the production of your products. Check out European Commission, DG Taxud's new factsheets; also available in non-EU languages: https://lnkd.in/dK2PCtUm Together, importers and producers can drive the change towards a cleaner, more sustainable global industry. Today, we will be tuning into Jessika Roswall's hearing, the Commissioner-designate for Environment, Water Resilience, and a Competitive Circular Economy. Her vision? A #CircularEconomy Act 🌱 that harmonises market rules for secondary materials — driving a stronger, more competitive circular economy across the EU. At CEMBUREAU, we’re ready to lead the way. 💡 But to fully unlock the potential of a circular economy, we need policies that secure access to sustainable waste streams and alternative raw materials. Banning landfilling, simplifying access to materials in historical landfills and recognising the role of co-processing in recycling targets are crucial steps. Let’s build a future where waste becomes a resource, supporting #decarbonisation and cutting emissions across Europe. 💪 More in details in our Net Zero Roadmap: https://lnkd.in/dpe97puD

Today, we’re following the hearing of Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner-designate for #Energy and Housing.⚡🏠 As part of our commitment to net zero, we support his ambition to drive down energy costs, expand renewable energy, and incentivise CCUS which is vital to Europe's clean energy future. We share a vision for sustainable and resilient buildings that support this energy transition. Materials with high thermal mass, like #concrete, are game-changers — helping buildings store energy, cut emissions, and keep energy bills down. We’re pushing for policies that recognise this, making energy-efficient buildings a reality for all. 👉 https://lnkd.in/df8RkTfV

Most of the cement manufacturing CO2 emissions originate from the #clinker production. That's why, to significantly cut CO2 emissions by 2050, access to alternative raw materials is essential. We're projecting a substantial decrease in emissions 📉, 3.5% reduction by 2030, 8% by 2050, through increased use of these materials. For this we need key policy actions in place: 🔸 Promote material recycling and ease access to historical landfills with simplified permitting 🔸 Adapt waste management frameworks to recognise the benefits of recovered materials 🔗 Discover how we're pushing for #netzero: https://lnkd.in/egbZkNRZ #Cement2050
