📢 BREAKING NEWS: We are delighted to introduce Gert De Block, Secretary General of CEDEC- European Federation of Local & Regional Energy Companies, as the new Chair of the European Net Zero Alliance (ENZA) for the second semester of 2024. Read his statement below: 👇 🗣 "The coming 6 months will be marked by the start of the last EU legislative period before 2030. Whatever ambitious #2040climatetargets and energy targets will be decided, the first priority must now be to realise the necessary implementations by 2030. Building on all available #sustainable technologies, infrastructures and resources. Involving all #energy #consumers – from energy-intensive industries to #SMEs to vulnerable households. CEDEC’s local energy companies have this integrated approach in their DNA, with ambitious and sustainable strategies in all activities along the #energy value chain, with #electricity, #molecules and #heating. The European #NetZero Alliance (ENZA) demonstrates this open mind for diversified solutions, effectively contributing to net-zero in a wide array of industrial sectors. That’s why I’m excited to take responsibility as Chair, as successor of the excellent work of Giulia Cancian of European Biogas Association and in close cooperation with all highly motivated ENZA members". 📢 Very exciting news from CEDEC ! 👏Today we are very pleased to announce that Dr. Urban Keussen has been unanimously elected as the new President of CEDEC- European Federation of Local & Regional Energy Companies. Dr. Keussen, currently Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of EWE AG, will lead CEDEC for a 2-year term, marking an exciting new chapter for our association. His election is a pivotal moment for CEDEC and its members as we continue to champion the interests of local and regional energy and broadband companies across Europe. Dr. Keussen succeeds Dr. Florian Bieberbach, CEO of Stadtwerke München GmbH (SWM), as President. 🎉Under Dr. Bieberbach's presidency, CEDEC played an influential role in shaping European energy policy, from key elements of the Green Deal to the reform of the Gas market. His unwavering support for local energy and broadband interests in Europe has been invaluable. CEDEC’s members – national associations and 2000 energy and broadband companies – warmly welcome Dr. Keussen on his new role. We look forward to his leadership in driving the future of local and regional energy solutions across Europe, especially in these dynamic times following the EU elections . As Vice-Presidents Christine Gochard (Gaz Electricité Grenoble – FR) was newly elected, whereas Marcello Bondesan (Gruppo Hera – IT), Jean-Pierre Hollevoet (Fluvius – BE) and Dick Weiffenbach (Netbeheer Nederland – NL) have renewed their mandate. 🚀 38th Madrid Gas Forum was just launched ! 🗨 💭 Ready in Madrid to discuss and exchange today and tomorrow on the state of the current gas markets in Europe and on the road to decarbonisation of the gas and hydrogen sector, all against the background of the targeted 2050 climate neutrality and geopolitical tensions impacting energy markets. ✔ Madrid Forum, chaired by the European Commission, traditionally gathers around the table the Council (today Belgian Presidency), regulatory authorities (ACER, CEER and national energy regulators) and member State representatives, along with the gas industry representatives, including gas grid operators, and involved stakeholders. ➕ Security of supply, affordability and competitiveness: equal objectives for all future energy and climate policies in the European gas and hydrogen sectors. ⚡ Integrated energy system approach will be key, including at local level, with an important role for renewable, decarbonized and low-carbon molecules. #MadridForum

📢 European Parliament just endorsed the final agreement on the Gigabit Infrastructure Act (GIA). 🚀 Broadband access is not a luxury but a necessity, that should benefit all citizens in both urban and rural areas alike. Local public companies play a pivotal role in ensuring future-proof broadband access, expanding the investments in local network infrastructure and fostering competition. 🏠 Through enhanced infrastructure sharing and civil works coordination the new rules are set to speed up the rollout of high-capacity communication networks, facilitating faster gigabit connectivity across the EU. This reaffirms the EU's commitment to provide high-capacity broadband to all households in Europe by 2030. 💼 The Gigabit Infrastructure Act rightly acknowledges the possibility for network operators to offer virtual network access (bitstream access) as an alternative to physical infrastructure access. A move that will safeguard businesses, particularly local public companies investing in the necessary local infrastructure, from the issue of local overbuild. A measure that will ensure their continued investment in local fibre networks. 🛡️ Specific safeguards are also foreseen for critical infrastructure. Electronic communication networks and energy networks are critical infrastructure. In uncertain times like we are experiencing now, their protection should always take precedence over obligations to publish information that may compromise their security. #GigabitInfrastructureAct #Broadband #LocalPublicCompanies #CriticalInfrastructure

🎇 🎤 Happy to be part of CEER Customer Conference 2024 = Paving the way for decarbonised households, and contribute to an enriching exchange of ideas in a panel with sustainable EnergyCities and Ofgem energy regulator. 👉 How can local energy companies support : 💎 Offer clear perspectives and ensure investment security for both households and energy infrastructure providers. 💎 Build on local heating & cooling planning, where local resources meet local needs – organized by local authorities in cooperation with all local energy distribution system operators (electricity, gas, heat). 💎 With an integrated energy system vision and taking all sustainable technologies on board. 💎 Make clear political choices on goals and timing, with public authorities and regulators providing fiscal, financial and regulatory support to households and energy infrastructure providers. Hope to be back at the next CCC ! #ccc2024 #consumerprotection #energymarket #consumerempowerment #decarbonisation

📢 Significant milestone reached for a reformed Electricity Market Design: the European Parliament just gave its final approval to the agreement reached with the Council last December. New measures ready to enter into force in the coming months. 📝 Key objectives for customers and investors: ✅ Enhance predictability in energy prices for customers and in the return for investors in new electricity generation, through long-term contractual instruments like PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) and CfDs (Contracts-for-Difference). ✅ Facilitate energy sharing by setting the rules of the game. ✅ Protect vulnerable consumers from disconnections and establish 'supplier of last resort' systems to ensure continuity of supply for household customers. 👏🏻 From a grid perspective, we applaud the emphasis on more anticipatory investments and their integration in grid tariffs – also mentioned in the recent EU's Action Plan for Grids. Based on forward-looking grid planning, this will allow to build the needed energy infrastructure throughout Europe to effectively accommodate the steep rise of both decentralised energy sources and electricity demand. 🏎 Special reward for speed: the co-legislators reached a consensus on the reform a mere 9 months after the publication of the European Commission's proposal, just in time before this ending European legislative term. #ElectricityMarketDesign #EnergyTransition #Decarbonisation
