🌱 On July 2nd, farmers from Poland had the opportunity to participate in a meeting organized by Uniwersytet Przyrodniczy w Poznaniu (PULS) as part of the Field Workshop Highlighting Sustainable Agriculture Practices. 🌾 The main topic was a discussion about the possibilities of growing camelina and B. carinata in the intercropping system – the advantages and disadvantages of this approach, the method of harvesting and much more. It was a very interesting day! #CARINAproject #camelina #carinata #oilseedcrop #climatechange #agriculture #agronomy #sustainableagriculture
CARINA PROJECT
Research
CARINA focuses on new sustainable and diversified farming systems including 2 new oilseed crops, carinata and camelina.
About us
CARINA focuses on new sustainable and diversified farming systems including 2 new oilseed crops, carinata and camelina, able to provide low iLUC feedstocks for the bio-based economy. This project has received funding from the EU Horizon Europe programme. We firmly believe that a participatory approach is necessary for successfully scaling-up innovative farming systems. Engaging farmers and other stakeholders in jointly developing solutions under specific environmental, technical, and social conditions has been highly considered in CARINA. We estimate about 3M farmers being potentially reached by CARINA thanks to the direct cooperation with its partners. Carinata and camelina provide high quality oils that will be transformed into innovative bio-based products (bioherbicides, bioplastics). The co-product from oil extraction is a protein-rich cake, which will be valorized as animal feed, and in a multitude of high added-value products, exploiting the mucilage and glucosinolates contained within. CARINA capitalizes on a highly experienced team of 20 partners, 6 affiliated entities, from 13 EU and Associated Countries (Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Greece, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Poland, UK, Serbia, Tunisia, Morocco, Switzerland).

🌱 CARINA Demo Field Day in Italy 🌾 The CARINA Demo Field Day, organized by Novamont and Coldiretti, took place in Benevento, Italy, on July 3rd. This event aimed to inform farmers about the activities, project results, and opportunities from cultivating carinata and other innovative crops. 🚜 With around 60 attendees, primarily local farmers, the day was a great success. Participants visited experimental fields of carinata and safflower, two promising oil crops for the production of agricultural raw materials for biorefineries and bio-product creation. 🌟 The MIDAS Project and Brilian projects were also highlighted, with a special focus on safflower, which garnered significant interest from the farmers. 💚 The event generated a lot of enthusiasm, and the feedback was very positive. 🔗 For more news, and achievements of CARINA, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/gBJ4Q-Mc #CARINAproject #camelina #carinata #oilseedcrop #climatechange #agriculture #agronomy #sustainableagriculture

🌾 On May 16th, CARINA project partner Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España joined Cultiva Day 2024 (Jornada Cultiva 2024) in Somontano de Barbastro (Huesca). At this event they could explored camelina, an alternative crop that is being tested together with Camelina Company España as a part of CARINA. 🚜 This event, attended by around 1,500 people, was organized by the Government of Aragón, Arax Network, and Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España and Aragón. #CARINAproject #camelina #carinata #oilseedcrop #climatechange #agriculture #agronomy #sustainableagriculture

🌱 On April 26th, CARINA Field Day was organized at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Rimski Šančevi, Serbia. This event brought together a diverse group of agricultural enthusiasts, including researchers, academic professors, producers, and students, all united by a shared passion for agricultural innovation. 🚜 Participants visited field trials featuring different cropping management techniques, including double cropping, intercropping, and relay cropping. Under the guidance of Dr. Ana Marjanović Jeromela, attendees learned about relay cropping of winter barley with carinata, winter pea with carinata, intercropping of winter pea with camelina, and spring barley with carinata. The innovative double cropping experiments with camelina as a cash cover crop and food crop were particularly appealing. 🪰 The event also showcased trials from WP2, of testing 11 various formulations provided by Kimitec on winter pea against aphids as well as experimental results of bioherbicides' effects on weeds in the greenhouse. Participants were able to observe which formulations had a phytotoxic effect. #CARINAproject #camelina #carinata #oilseedcrop #climatechange #agriculture #agronomy #sustainableagriculture
