As many out-of-office and 'summer break' messages start to appear, it is a moment to look back at another successful academic year. As a reminder, here are some of the achievements that have brightened up your LinkedIn page during the past year: **PROJECTS** 🚀 6 new doctoral students and 5 new junior/senior projects started with the support of Research Foundation Flanders - FWO 🧠 4 projects received funding from the FONDATION CHARCOT STICHTING, 2 projects from MS-Liga Vlaanderen and another one from Stichting MS Research to research multiple sclerosis 🔜 3 #SALKturbo projects secured funding to support their envisioned activities to strenghten the innovation and economic potential of Limburg: #Digipath and #Bluezone crossed borders via Interreg Meuse-Rhine (NL-BE-DE) and #HARC (the new Healthy Aging Research Consortium) can purchase a new multiplex screening platform via EFRO Vlaanderen **OUTREACH/IMPACT** 🤝 we value partnerships and continuously look for new collaboration, as illustrated by another successful partnering drink as well as networking events with LCRC by UHasselt - Jessa - ZOL and VITO 👋 we connected our research to the general public by initiatives as #Dagvandewetenschap and Het Belang van Limburg #burgeronderzoek 🎤 Jelle Hendrix and Annelies Bronckaers answered questions in the podcast of Universiteit van Vlaanderen 🔬 ZEISS Microscopy launched new software that was co-developed with our researchers 👩🎓 just recently, we hosted the 18th #ESNI summer school in Hasselt And not to forget, in 2024 we are celebrating our institute's 25th birthday for which many of our research groups made videos to showcase their research focus 🎥 ❗ Good news: you are all invitated to celebrate this with us during the mini-symposium 'Miniature Minds Revolutionizing the Field of Neuroscience" on October 8th (registration for free via https://lnkd.in/gU5UdjKy) Taken together, I think we more than deserved our summer break 🌞 Happy summer to you all, we hope you can also take some time off to enjoy with your loved ones!

Where science connects hearts and brains - Innovation in neuroscience, immunology and cardiometabolic disease
About us
BIOMED invests in high quality fundamental research and combines this with translational programs that aim to develop an application that is of benefit for the specific patient and the health sector. Our research focuses on the three main disease areas: immunology, neuroscience and cardiometabolic science. While the chosen disease areas each have their domain specific research questions, we strive to identify and invest in common research themes in line with the common working model. More in detail, we aim to: - Identify risk factors throughout life that predispose people to develop disease - Get better insights in disease mechanisms - Best monitor disease activity - Devise strategies to manage, treat or even prevent disease

📢 Invitation to Minisymposium: Miniature Minds Revolutionizing the Field of Neuroscience 📢 🗓️ Date: October 8th, 2024 📍 Location: Watt 17: Koeltorenlaan, 9, 3550 Heusden-Zolder Join us for an exciting mini-symposium at the BIOMED research institute, celebrating 25 years of groundbreaking neuroscience research. This event will explore the innovative world of human brain organoids—miniature brains-in-a-dish that replicate brain cells' structure and function. Featuring keynote speaker Prof. Madeline Lancaster, this symposium will highlight the potential of brain organoids in understanding brain development, disease mechanisms, and drug screening. It’s a great opportunity to network with fellow researchers and delve into the applications of these 'mini-brains.' 📝 Registration: Participation is free, but registration is mandatory by September 20th, 2024. Researchers in the organoid field are encouraged to submit abstracts by September 3rd, 2024. Selected authors will be notified by September 17th, 2024. 🔗 Register Here: https://lnkd.in/gU5UdjKy Don’t miss this chance to engage with leading minds in neuroscience and explore the future of brain research with organoids. For the Flemish people among you: did you spot our researcher Bert Op 't Eijnde in one of the recent episodes of 'Ze Zeggen Dat'? 🎥 📺 ❓ Bert was asked to test whether e-sports can be considered true sports based on calorie expenditure. 🎮 This is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the intersection of science and sports. Interested in the results? The episode can be watched at VTM Go (season 4 episode 6) #Research #Esports #SportsScience #CalorieExpenditure #ZeZeggenDat https://lnkd.in/eYjy3MjZ

We hope you enjoyed the videos of our little #BIOMED25 video challenge! Time to announce the winning team.... 🥁 👏 Congrats to the BogieLab (Jeroen Bogie & team)! Closely followed by the FIERCE lab (Esther Wolfs & team) and the NIC&R team (Niels Hellings & team). But of course also an applause for all participants that came out of their comfort zone and did a good job with the videos! 💡 If you missed videos, no worries, they will remain available on our storyline! In the meantime, check out our general institute's movie below, summarizing what we have to offer for our collaborators. 🔗 Don't hesitate to connect to our researchers or our business development team ([email protected]) if you have any questions. #lifesciences #biomedicalsciences #research #communication #marketing

Yesterday, euregional actors in the life sciences and health domain gathered in Maastricht during the Health Innovation Euregion event. As in the previous two years, the focus of the event was on sharing experiences and success stories from start-ups in the #Euregion. This year, the second part of the event was dedicated to the ecosystems in the different regions and how they can support start-ups and established SMEs/companies. Roeland Buckinx, manager of Health Campus Limburg DC, nicely (as always) showcased the ecosystem and plans of Belgian Limburg. Thanks to the organizers for this opportunity to connect #crossborder and increase awareness of the euregional possibilities! #networking #collaboration #hei24

🙏 Grateful and excited! 👏
