• Goed nieuws! Geniet ervan! https://lnkd.in/eXBRnwdV

  • Information from the press indicates that the European Commission is considering moving the competency over #pesticide files and responsibilities from DG SANTE to another DG. We, the undersigned organisations led by Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Europe, working to protect citizens and #biodiversity from the harmful effects of pesticides, express our concern regarding these reports. In the framework of the EU's #OneHealth approach, removing the competence on #pesticides from DG SANTE would contradict the evolution of science showing that human, animal, plant, and environmental #health are intrinsically linked and interdependent. At a decisive moment for the future of the #EU, where #citizens express their concerns for their future and that of their #children, it is of major importance that the European Commission's actions are in line with #science, with the law, as well as with citizens' demands. 💚I am amazed by the success of our Organics Europe Youth Event 2024, which concluded yesterday!   Over 130 young people from across Europe and beyond gathered in Bari to exchange knowledge and ideas on how organic practices can contribute to biodiversity, sustainability and fairness in food systems. Their enthusiasm and commitment to making the world a better place were evident throughout the event, as they actively engaged with speakers and shared their visions for the future of organic agriculture.👨🌾    Our motivation to organise this event stemmed from the belief that empowering young people to engage in the organic movement is crucial. We aim to build a community of passionate young individuals committed to creating a more resilient organic sector and a more sustainable future. After witnessing the participants' motivation and dedication, I am more confident than ever that the next generation will navigate the future of organic agriculture with confidence and clear vision, also thanks to the Organic Youth Network that was co-created during one of the event's workshops – we can't wait to watch it grow!🌱   👉 One key insight from the event was the importance of maintaining diversity and open-mindedness within the organic movement. By embracing different voices, perspectives, and approaches, and aligning with allied movements, we can strengthen our impact.   👉 Another significant theme was the need for the organic sector to reclaim its narrative as a driver of change and to remain at the forefront of a broader social movement. Organic practices were discussed not only as a production model but also as a socio-economic model that contributes to health, environmental protection, and fairness in agriculture.   🙏 I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our host, CIHEAM Bari and to our sponsors for making this event possible, as well as to all speakers, participants and partners for being part of this incredible journey.   We will continue to inspire and empower the next generation of the organic movement, and I look forward to seeing you at our next edition of the Organics Europe Youth Event in 2 years!   #OEYE2024 #OrganicYouth #YouthVoices Agroecology Europe Association ICLEI Green Organics B.V. • Fantastic few days at the Organics Europe Youth Event in picturesque Bari, Italy! It was great to align the #organic and #agroecological movements around the principles that connect us: growing #food in a just and #sustainable way, promoting care, fairness, diversity, and solidarity. Organic, #biodynamic, #regenerative, and agroecological #farmers all produce quality product in a safe environment, without polluting, to protect #ecosystems for long-term #farm viability. Sessions on access to #land and commoning, #feminism, #intersectionality, and #queerness in agriculture, labour rights, #migration, and #humanrights reminded us to invite #diversity into farming and #foodsystems and break othering. As Dr. Vandana Shiva of Navdanya International said, living systems require diversity. Differences are socially constructed; to pretend we are separate from #nature is #ecological apartheid. While we have come a long way, we still have a lot of work to do. We need to redesign the organic narrative in alignment with #agroecology to #decolonise the food system, according to Ronald van Marlen NaNa Bio BV. For that, we need long-term thinking, trust, #solidarity, and community-building. We need to better put into practice the social and political aspects and principles of our movements to deliver on socioeconomic #transformation. We also need better legal protections and regulations and stronger implementation of #sustainable policies. We can grow enough food while preserving #biodiversity. Because #food is the ultimate currency of life. Thank you so much IFOAM Organics Europe for the spotless organisation, ICLEI for the partnership, and CIHEAM Bari for hosting! #OEYE2024 #organicyouth

Incredible how the time flies when you gather inspiring people together in a fabulous place to talk about the youth navigating the future of organic 🌱✨ On our last day of #OrganicsEuropeYouthEvent2024, our participants had a chance to dive into local organic food production during our excursions funded by Being Organic in EU Italia, Being Organic in EU Deutschland. 🔹 Andriani S.p.A. project pasta factory in Gravina – the first pasta brand to offer innovative types of pasta such as legume, spirulina, teff! During the visit, participants learned the steps of pasta production, had a real-life visit to the spirulina factory, and enjoyed delicious pasta tasting 🤩 🔹Azienda Agricola Cuonzo organic olive oil mill is located in Palombaio. As part of the visit, participants explored an organic olive oil orchard of 30 hectares, heard an inspiring history about the family tradition and passion to spread the culture of olive oil since its foundation in 1970🫒 Big thanks to Andriani S.p.A and Azienda Agricola Cuonzo for such a warm welcome and a great presentation on the inside of the work of Italian pasta and olive oil production that leads sustainable food systems transition!👏🇮🇹 #OEYE2024 #OrganicYouth #OrganicsEuropeYouthEvent #YouthVoices
