[PRESS RELEASE]     “Raising aviation taxes is the poster child of short-term thinking in politics... the French Government would de facto choose quick cash over durable economic competitiveness.” - Olivier Jankovec, Director General of ACI EUROPE.     European airlines and airports, represented by Airlines for Europe (A4E) and ACI EUROPE, today react with dismay at reports that the French Government is considering further increases in aviation taxes as a quick fix to address the country’s soaring national debt.    The consequences of such a decision are clear: tax increases would significantly damage not only the country’s aviation sector, but also the national economy. France benefits from an extremely competitive position, with Paris CDG (Groupe ADP) being one of the most connected airports in Europe according to the ACI EUROPE Connectivity Report 2024. It is also clear that such tax increases will create major hurdles for the effective decarbonisation of aviation, at a time when airports across Europe have proactively committed to Net Zero by 2050.     A4E and ACI EUROPE urge the French Government to reconsider these plans, by considering the economic potential of increased connectivity instead of crushing French aviation through ill-considered quick-fix taxes.     For more details, read our full press release: https://shorturl.at/jeWib

Director General at Airports Council International - ACI EUROPE

Great to be in Atlanta this week for the Governing Board of ACI World - Airports Council International and the Customer Experience Summit #AirportCX hosted by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Together with the DGs from the other ACI Regions, I was thrilled to finally meet our new colleague Justin Erbacci who has just become DG of ACI World. I very much look forward to keep advancing together our industry regionally and globally. The next International Civil Aviation Organization Assembly in 2025 will be a defining moment in this regard, and the Governing Board meeting provided the first opportunity to reflect on what should be our priorities and objectives. As Justin said, global aviation has now moved on from a period of recovery to a new period of growth. Passenger volumes will surpass 2019 levels this year - set to reach an impressive 9.5 billion. Apart from the sustainability imperative, that also puts the passenger experience at the forefront. In that context, speaking at #AirportCX yesterday, our ACI EUROPE President, Armando Brunini, was adamant airports need to become the masters of their own performance. That requires breaking the operational silos through: i) a new cooperation paradigm, ii) continued focus on innovation & data sharing, iii) aligned and enabling regulations (think airport slots reform!). Armando also singled out border control capacity as the number one headache - and the current plans to start the Schengen Entry Exit System are indeed causing lots of concerns for Europe’s airports and airlines… Kevin Burke | Rafael Echevarne | Ali Tounsi | Stefano Baronci | Candace McGraw | Jost Lammers | Arnaud Feist | Nazareno Ventola | Daniel Burkard | David Ciceo | Tine Haas, CPEng, IntPE(NZ) For and With Airports - Always.

As the new chair of ACI EUROPE’s airport performance network (APN-E) it’s my pleasure to announce the next destination of our bi-annual meeting! I think it couldn’t be more cool than this. Our newest members from Isavia are hosting us in spring next year, at Keflavík Airport (KEF)! Great thanks to Saevar Gardarsson and Bjarni Freyr Borgarsson for the hospitality. In the mean time we say goodbye to the departing chair Daniel Skoglund. In turn, Pieter Callewaert is joining me as vice-chair. Thank you Daniel and welcome Pieter! The progress we’ve made in terms of collaboration and transparancy over the years make me very proud to take over the lead.
