Chemical Affinity Membrane Filtration

About us

We offer chemical affinity based membrane separation technology. Our proprietary technology adds organic surface modifications to ceramic membranes. The changed surface will interact with the filtered products and this effect can be tailored to the needs of your process to attract wanted molecules and accelerate them through the membrane. Or to repel unwanted products so they don't block the membrane pores (anti-fouling). This way we create unique tailor-made solutions for your separations, purifications and fractionations. A-membranes is a spin-off of the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) and the University of Antwerp .

Last week our #membranetechnology expert Buekenhoudt Anita gave a plenary lecture at ICIM (International Conference on Inorganic Membranes), titled: ‘Grafting of ceramic membranes: boosting applications in liquid filtration’.   Anita: “I’m proud to have been able to share the groundbreaking work we do on ceramic membranes at VITO. I highlighted the strength of grafting membranes leading to anti-fouling properties, and to improved performance in solvents, as demonstrated up to pilot scale in a multitude of projects. I was also honoured to be the first female plenary speaker of this conference series that started in 1989 in Montpellier.”   Learn more on the unique advantages of membrane technology: https://lnkd.in/getvdnXi

Discover the partners of the #CUMERI European project! Today, we introduce A-membranes⬇️   A-membranes is a startup cleantech company pushing innovative membrane filtration technology - compatible with harsh chemical production environments - as an alternative to industrial energy-intensive product separation processes such as distillation. A-membranes grafts ceramic membranes by adding organic groups to the membrane’s surface. This way it tailors the interactions of the surface with molecules in the feed. Focussing on high retentions or on anti-fouling surfaces, it creates unique tailored low-energy separation solutions. Its solutions are applicable in organic solvent environments as well as in aqueous streams.   ♻ To learn more on the CUMERI project ➡️ cumeri.eu

Cumeri is a Horizon Europe project aiming at demonstrating innovative membrane technologies in two industrial processes: gas separations in the steel industry (CO2 and H2) and the replacement of distillation by membrane filtration in the petrochemical industry. For the latter, the re-refining of used lubricants (motor oil) has been selected. High viscosity used lubricant oil will be treated with a combination of different membrane-technologies to end up with re-refined lube base oil and roofing products in a process that is both economically and environmentally (CO2 emissions) more interesting. Membrane filtration will happen at high temperatures with grafted ceramic membranes. The very stable grafting of organic groups adapts the ceramic surface to match the process requirements. Affinity membrane filtration at its best!
