On this #WorldYouthSkillsDay, meet Matin, a young man from old Dhaka. After graduating in 2017, Matin faced years of unemployment and facing job interviews was Matin’s biggest fear. But in June 2024, his life took a positive turn!  Once, being hopeless, Matin stopped dropping his CV in different offices. One day, getting inspired by friends who were participating in different training programs, Matin came to know about the 'Soft Skills Training' under the USAID Bijoyee Project and enrolled as a NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) youth in the training program. After finishing the training, with newfound skills and the support of USAID Bijoyee Project’s career counselor, Matin again started dropping CVs and eventually secured a job as an Executive in a Seed Wholesale Company. Led by CARE Bangladesh and implemented by nine local organizations, USAID Bijoyee project is empowering Bangladeshi NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) youth with soft skills, paving the way for greater workforce success, income opportunities, and entrepreneurship. As very heavy rainfall in North-western Bangladesh and its adjoining upstream caused probability of danger level exceedance, SUFAL activated scenario 2 trigger of National Monsoon Flood Early Action Protocol on 1 July. With situation further deteriorating, scenario 5 also activated on 4 July in Kurigram, Gaibandha and Jamalpur and on 5 July in Bogura. 🎯 🎯 Update 3: Monsoon riverine flood in north-western Bangladesh 🎯 🎯 With scenario 2 and scenario 5 of the scenario-based Action Matrix for AA of the Early Action Protocol for Monsoon Riverine Flood Anticipatory Action activated respectively on 1 and 4 July 2024, SUFAL supported community and institution with anticipatory action in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, and Bogura. 🔶812 cattle vaccinated in 10 vaccination camp, 188 households received cattle feed, and 76 were sheltered in 02 temporary cattle shed. 🔶 05 shelters repaired and 06 boat supported evacuation with about 3000 people received better shelter and evacuation support.  🔶 05 connecting road repaired and 04 bamboo bridge constructed for uninterrupted communication. 🔶 700 households (HHs) received Multi-purpose Cash Grants (MPCG) [BDT5000/HH] 🔶753 most vulnerable households (HHs) supported with shock responsive social protection (SRSP) [BDT7000/HH) European Commission (ECHO) funded SUFAL consortium, CARE Bangladesh and Concern Worldwide with their partners, Eco-Social Development Organization (ESDO) and SKS Foundation, technical support from Regional Integrated Multi-hazard Early Warning System (RIMES), is active on ground to tackle monsoon flood in a coordinated approach. As CARE Bangladesh marked 75 years of operation in Bangladesh this Saturday, Ram Das, Country Director for CARE Bangladesh, along with Senior Director Mehrul Islam, launched the Program Strategy for the country office. The strategy outlines that by 2030, CARE Bangladesh will achieve #genderequality and #resilience for 15 million people.    “When we say impact, it means, deep, sustainable, long term, positive change happening in the lives of people. The change that remains forever, for a long time to come. We want to work in a way that will transform 15 million peoples’ lives positively.” - stated Ram Das in his delivery. CARE

USAID Bangladesh Mission Director Reed Aeschliman and Director of Office of Acquisition and Assistance, Andrew Holland paid a visit to one of the USAID Bijoyee project offices on July 3, 2024. During this momentous occasion at Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC), the senior officials of USAID Bangladesh along with CARE Bangladesh Deputy Country Director- Programs, Ikhtiar Uddin Khandaker and Deputy Country Director- Program Support, Shamim Jahan interacted with the Bijoyee participants- 40 diverse young people. The visitors observed the ongoing soft Skills Training sessions and interacted with the trainees. Various strategies were discussed and visions for the project’s success were shared, which was followed by a celebration of the project’s initial success on ensuing jobs for our 22 training graduates. Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Implemented by CARE Bangladesh in collaboration with BYLC and 8 other local partners, Government of Bangladesh, and private sector actors, Bijoyee will equip over 250,000 young people with the necessary soft skills to secure employment or start their own businesses. 🎯 🎯 Update 1: Monsoon riverine flood in north-western Bangladesh 🎯 🎯 🔶 As heavy to very heavy rainfall in north-western and adjoining upstream, a rising trend of river water in Brahmaputra-Jamuna with probability of danger level exceedance, Department of Disaster Management activated scenario 02 trigger as per National Early Action protocol (NEAP) for Monsoon Riverine Flood on 01 July 2024. 🔶 National Early Action protocol (NEAP) for Monsoon Riverine Flood Anticipatory Action is one of its kind that has been developed by Anticipatory Action Technical Working group where CARE Bangladesh is one of the key contributors which will be tested in 2024 for monsoon riverine flood in Brahmaputra-Jamuna river basin. 🔶 With the 2nd stage of trigger activated, SUFAL team is vigilant on ground, continuing coordination for Disaster Management Committee led anticipatory action. 🔶 Action-oriented early warning dissemination is ongoing. 🔶 220 cattle from 144 HHs vaccinated in 03 vaccination campaign in Balijuri and Charpakerdah union of Jamalpur. 🔶 04 connecting roads repaired in Ghuridah, Bharatkhali and Holdia union of Gaibandha. The DFAT-funded CARE Bangladesh-led AHP Bangladesh Consortium hosted its 2nd Learning, Reflection, and Reporting Workshop on 26 June 2024, in Cox’s Bazar. The event featured in-depth discussions on reporting, key areas for improvement, and enhanced coordination mechanisms. Participants actively engaged in dynamic group work sessions focusing on operating context and adaptation, risk management, and cross-cutting themes such as Media and Communications; Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL); Accountability to Affected People (AAP); #DisabilityInclusion; #GenderEquality and #Localization.
