A downloadable game for Windows and macOS

The handless clock may shatter, but it will never stop ticking.

Naiko's Room is a RPG Maker psychological horror game about a monotonous life, a priceless purpose and an old, rotten friendship. A guiding light for the abandoned, a Room where the past, present and future will collide until The End of all.

Follow an introverted girl who ends up in a room with no door, as she does her daily routine. Read books, experience nightmares and find flower scented memories in a journey to gather the will to get out.

But remember, there's someone out there waiting for you outside...

~~~
This game is chapter based, and will be updated periodically once new chapters are done. Currently the game only goes up to Chapter 2.
As of Chapter 2, the game has:
  • Visual Novel style storytelling
  • Original soundtrack (mostly)
  • 2 paths to take
  • 1 "The End"
  • Clocks with no hands
These stats will change in the future as more chapters are added.
~~~

  • As of version 2.2, the issue of having the game randomly crashing or closing by itself has been hopefully fixed. If you still encounter such problem at any point after downloading the newest version, please let me know.
    • The version of the game is now shown at the title screen.

I've been following you since I first came across this game, before I even played it, I knew I was gonna like it. It has been really something to see the story and gameplay develop. When I first played it, chapter 1 had barely 30 something minutes to it, a couple chase scenes and introductions. And then it had exploration of more scenery, the story finally settling down into something with roots.

AND NOW WE HAVE TWO CHAPTERS?!?!?! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? I can't. The new additions to chapter one felt like re-reading an old book - of course that happened, how else did i expect the story to play out? The plot of chapter one flowed into chapter two so smoothly.  The choices finally becoming gaining weight to themselves. JACOB.

You have no idea just how much fondness and love I have for this game and the main character. I hope you continue working on this with peace and knowledge of this.

(p.s. what game engine do you use for this?)

Thank you!! ^^

The game was made in RPG Maker MV.

AAAAAAAAAA OMG IM JUST SEEING THIS AFTER GOING THROUGH MY EMAIL??!?!?!? CHAPTER 2 LETS GO IM SO EATING THIS UP THANK YOU AXLELISM 🙏🙏

ive been taking my sweet time and so far only took 1 route (ASSUMINGLY.), "jacob's" route

honestly i dont even have the words to describe how happy this chapter made me. the references and possible symbolism (or maybe im really just making it up in my head), jacob and naiko's dynamic, everything. for example (i havent seen chapter 1 for over a year so i might just be wrong about this reference thing) but as far as i remember, naiko's room is, simplified, a room to guide "children of the dust" in a way. kind of like rehab considering how "jacob"'s route turned out

so in a way, you would see naiko as an entity that wants to help "children of the dust" (i cant explain this all that well, kind of like... children that were misguided; whether its addiction(a recurring theme) or not)

at the same time, jacob views naiko as the complete opposite. (which is also kind of a given with how they treat him. (strangling, threats, inducing him with nic as a way to make him more docile.. the wound on the forearm might be their doing too? or did he harm himself somehow? unsure of that)) even going as far as suggesting he and lucy should abandon naiko altogether and get out on their own, saying naiko only wants to kill lucy (which is weird how he managed to survive 11 years in the room that way (he also isnt considered a child of the dust so perhaps its different? they say hes still useful in some odd way, possible reason as to why he survived so long if hes right))

so in ANOTHER way, you could envision jacob as "addiction" itself. lucy finally felt at peace around him and it kept her coming back; just like addiction, it keeps you hooked as long as you experience those small moments of bliss, even after seeing how small those moments really are. taking you back to the state you were in before, just worse. this claim becomes even more ironic once you realize that to even reach jacob, you have to OD (take 3 instead of 2) ... which was the initial detail i noticed before i wrote 4 different paragraphs leading up to it (including this one?)

my thoughts are honestly kind of scattered right now and i cant form a proper analysis of the chapter as a whole, BUT GOD it was so good. i loved the small references, will probably replay again after doing the other route to see if the books have anything special foreshadowing or not because it was honestly a part of the routine i overlooked (which makes me realize that its weird youd add them if there really was nothing special about them)

there was also the bonus room which was a nice relief after the chapter, though the only reason i really am mentioning it is cause of the classmate dvd. honestly another cool thing, the game closed while lucy was describing something about ashley being ganged up on, something along the lines of her not wanting to stand out amongst everyone else making fun of ashley "so... i..." (something like that?) kinda scared me at first, thought my laptop was about to crash again. neat little thing looking back at chapter 1 when ashley died . despite the death being caused by ashley, you could probably continue lucy's words with "killed her". maybe thats just her belief? i dunno!

all in all, this chapter was amazing. i do wonder in chapter 3 whats gonna happen with/to "jacob". im curious if naiko would really allow him to get so far that lucy actually sides with him and gets rid of naiko or if both routes lead to naiko winning lucy over (whether in "jacob"'s they get rid of him sooner or not) (i also say both routes winning lucy over, but i still have only played one route... so who's to say taking 2 pills actually leads to naiko) (kidding that wouldnt make sense)

keep cooking axlelism, me, my symbolism delusions and the other 2.5 people reading the devlogs will be embracing chapter 3 just as hard as jacob did the first time he and lucy met in the garden

Thank you for the long comment, awesome person from itch dot io, I love reading what people thought of my work <3

I'm sorry for the game closing by itself, it's a known issue that is not intended to happen. In case you didn't, you can go and read the rest of the DVD.

Your investment is greatly appreciated, and I hope the other route is just as intriguing!! ^^

Hello, it's me again, one of the 3.5 people, I usually give a long review but I am just here to say that CHAPTER 2 is amazing and everyone and their mother should play it!

But for real, the art and animations in this game are out of this world, I cannot stress enough, they are SO GOOD aaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAA.

The game itself is also pretty fun, VERY spooky and the lore it's on point, it really expands a lot on what chapter one laid; My only issue was that one of the routes was apparently bugged so I could not play the game at 100% but I played as much as I could and I loved all of it.

This game no doubt will become a classic in time (and with some elbow grease!) and it's definitely in my top 10 RPGmaker horror games ever, I am glad this is the last game I got to play before becoming a virtual ghost, 10/10 would eat a bowl of stuff again.

Keep up the good work!

I did a gameplay about this and super excited for the next chapter. I like the storyline so far and it made me curious as well. I'm looking forward to this! I hope this game will be mainstream because it deserves more recognition. This game is so awesome, really!

I love this game, and is one of the only few games that I seem to be invested to and would want to follow, i love Chapter 1 so far, i also love some minor things like the Tea minigame, i also love the design of characters they look good, i also love the minor animations in a dialog, pretty nice!

thisvgame is so good omg

Someone in my chat recommended this game to me and I must say it is amazinggggg I absolutely LOVE all the things in here. The tea interaction, the switching table questioning, the build-up of psychological nightmare, and the little animations is just very cool!!!

Hey!!! So, the game isn't opening. I don't know what's going on, but if anyone knows, can you tell me what to do? I have been waiting for 5 minutes. It opens and then shows the 'Welcome' thing. (I am using windows)

( 2)

Ohh, nevermind. That was so dumb. If you have the same problem, you just have to click on the 'space' or 'enter' button of the computer.

( 2)

Well, glad you managed to figure it out. Sorry to hear you fell victim to my questionable design choices --

I absolutely loved it! since the first scenario, i was immersed in the story, the universe building is very unique and its a different setting having a character who isnt determinated, could relate a lot to her, can't wait to learn more about lucy and naiko!    it's very well written, i loved reading the books.

As a enjoyer of interacting with every object and npc, the hallway dialogues were everything to meit's very well written, also loved reading the books. The animations and the soundtrack are top tier too, they're so fit in

 kinda want a blank clock now just to stare my soul

Anyway thank you so much for making this game, had a lot of fun playing, can't wait to see next chapters! <3

Hi!

I a horror composer  and I just saw and played your game! Really interesting, I particularly like this specific theme of storytelling using very "slow-burn" like tropes, such as monotony, purposelessness, which I think your game translated very well. I'm midway to the end of  the first chapter, but here's my feedback:

- Good music, the chromatic change and dense repetition of notes works well for its purpose, although I think it's a bit repetitive, you could've enlarged the soundtracks and added more details while still maintaining the repetitiveness, the last piano track I composed I did exactly that. So, it's possible.

- Average SFX, it works, but we could certainly add a bit more detail and nuance to it (of course, maybe the project doesn't really need that, so take it with a grain of salt).

- Awesome level design and storytelling, I know it's not easy to create a compelling story and combine it well with the level design of the game, you did that well.

Made a video on Naiko's Room

( 2)

This was really great I cant wait to see more

( 3)

Wow at first it felt a little slow but it was like a slow burn and made me so excited for the future chapters! Really enjoyed the story once we started to get into it and the nightmare! Best of luck on the game!

Found this game through this video and I gotta say, I love it so much! The characters are cool and I can't wait for the next chapter to see where the story is going.

Ah, it was just a mishap on my part, oops.

The clock may not have hands but Naiko's room sure do because this game packs a punch, first of all I have to start with the most impressive part, this game looks gorgeous, I was losing my mind every little animated cutscene, they add so much more value to the whole game and this is now my standard for RPGmaker horror games, still images are not enough anymore! (jk).

The music was good and more importantly it was properly used, I like when reading or talking the music gets lower, that is very nice immersion trick specially when using headphones.

The story is much more ironed and focused, and therefore enjoyable, I can sense some inspiration from other games and media that feel pretty original and well implemented, I very much like the changes made from the demo, this is the superior version (Although I still like the extra bits of the first one) the maps are much more detailed and are easy to navigate without looking dull. The tea minigame was a nice surprise and it's very fun, as well as the bring snacks quest, it is nice to see a dream world with other people living their own lives (dreams?) for a change.

Finally, the characters have so much more...character, I like Naiko even more, and Timmy too, Ashley is more much fleshed out (And I hate her!) as well as the whole world, can't wait for the rest of the story to come out; I would comment more about the story but I don't want to spoil people.

Now, for the not-so perfect parts, the game has some typos and grammar mistakes that are not big deal but are worth mentioning, I found at least 3 invisible walls (probably events) that blocked paths and the only bug I found was the game crashing while I tried to save at school. literally the worse time for a crash to happen.

I also wanted to mention the school chase scene that prevented me from finishing the game on video (I plan to finish it later when I get the time) I feel like that was close to the end and maybe because of that less polished but the fact that the player doesn't get a save prompt before and/or en between each is mortifying, I am all in for challenges and hard chase scenes but that feels more like a critical game design error, what if people have to stop playing for whatever reason? you don't even get to pause the game during the scene.

I could go longer about the chase itself having some design problems but this comment is already too long and I also made a video.

Overall this game is very enjoyable, even with those flaws and I say you should feel very proud of what you accomplished, this is a product of very high quality and I can't wait to see what's next on Naiko's room.

--------------------------

Update: I finished the game, I liked the rest of the lore on the girls and I am glad the ending from the demo is still there, I liked it a lot, the game still crashed one time for some reason (Probably because I am too good at games) I still feel the chase scene is kinda wonky but definitely can be completed when you are not in a rush.

The something-pedia entries are good back lore, I am personally not a big fan of that kind of stories (Mandella catalogue and SCP comes to mind) but the cosmic entities. the bigger-than-us universe and all that is something I love to see, what was the illustrations and the format of the book are of course very well done. And the pills scene was a  nice surprise, I am glad I came back to finish the game.

Keep up the good work!
