Last night the Australian Investment Council and KPMG Australia brought together female founders and leaders in #privatecapital to discuss the challenges and opportunities for women-led businesses in #raisingcapital. Powerhouse speakers included: Kate Morris, founder of Adore Beauty Group and co-founder of Glow Capital Partners Andrea Gardiner, Founder and CEO of Jelix Ventures Amanda Price, head of KPMG High Growth Ventures Moderated by Stacey Hannam, KPMG Partner of Deal Advisory M&A Tax Hosted by Navleen Prasad, CEO Australian Investment Council While many of the systemic barriers discussed and stories shared are well known and understood, and have been for decades(!!), the energy in the room was nothing short of pure Boss Queen🚀 and seeing so many male allies showing commitment to shifting the dial was powerful. Key takes: - The power of networks and the confidence drawn from a support system of peers and mentors - Taking up space. Kate Morris really stressed this, especially when leading an investment round. No one will sell your business better than you do! - It is critical to have more women in investment decision making roles, and it was great to see so many young women in the room who are charting this path. Let's continue to drive a more inclusive and equitable future in private capital and investment. 💪✨ #WomenInBusiness #FemaleFounders #PrivateCapital #Investment #Leadership #Inclusion #Diversity #KPMG #AustralianInvestmentCouncil #BossQueen Sophie Ritchie Amanda Price Arjun Agarwal 🚀Imogen Hunter Giulia Colaci Josh Geelan Maja T. Dive into Jared Lynch's latest article in today's The Australian featuring our very own, Amanda Price, sharing insights on the current venture capital-led raisings environment. “While we saw that investment increased 12 per cent for the first half of this year and this is a really good sign, I don’t think it’s going to come roaring back," Price says. “If you take Covid out and the numbers around that, where is the natural point for investment in Australia to sit?” Globally, venture capital investment soared 25 per cent to $US94.3bn, fuelled by nine $US1bn deals, which KPMG said was the largest ever in a single quarter. But overall volumes were weak, falling to 7691 – the lowest level since the third quarter of 2016. Read the full story to learn more about the current market and the challenges founders face. Many senior business owners in Australia are preparing for retirement. However, we’re seeing a significant decline in young business owners as only 8% are under 30, compared to 22% aged 60 . This demographic shift has led to increased interest from investors offering alternatives to winding up or selling to competitors as search funds and investment vehicles like the Australian Business Growth Fund are emerging options. An interesting story of initiatives like Arbor Permanent Owners, who are focused on preserving the legacy of Aussie businesses, providing easy succession plans and opportunities for former startup founders who are looking for stable investments. #startup #entrepreneurship #succession
