U.S Ambassador to Australia Caroline Kennedy recently visited Perth to discuss the opportunities for AUKUS, with Perth set to host a rotational presence of US and UK nuclear-powered submarines. Present were high-ranking members of the US Navy, Federal, State and Local dignitaries and representatives from the US Consulate in Perth. Western Australia is at the forefront of Australia's path to acquiring a nuclear submarine capability, with the program expected to generate close to 6000 jobs in Western Australia. 

2024 applications for the Anzac Day Trust Grants are open now! The Anzac Day Trust grants provide funding for any purpose that benefits ex-service personnel or their families. This is primarily achieved through assisting established ex-service organisations who are delivering projects, programs, and initiatives supporting the WA veteran community. The Trustees will consider all projects that deliver tangible outcomes and value for money for veterans and their families. Applications close 30 June 2024. The ASC Pty Ltd has been announced as the AUKUS Sovereign Sustainment Partner for the sustainment and maintenance of the AUKUS submarine fleet. Employing 600 Western Australians and supported by approximately 150 small and medium enterprises (SMEs), ASC’s appointment will create over 500 jobs in the next 5 years in Western Australia. Introducing 2 of Kaizen K9's newest trainees, Senna (black lab) and Oscar (fawn lab)! In 2023, through the Anzac Day Trust Veterans Grant Scheme, the State Government awarded $430,000 to RSLWA and Kaizen K9 to develop the Psychiatric Assistance Dogs Pilot Program. The first program of its kind in Western Australia, the pilot program sought to partner four veterans with trained assistance dogs, to improve their mental health outcomes. Defence West is happy to announce that 4 puppies are now in training at Kaizen K9! The canines will undergo an intensive training course delivered by Kaizen K9 before being paired with veterans. The veteran’s wellbeing will be monitored via ongoing psychiatric consultations. 📢 An Australian first for the AUKUS Navy Chiefs 🛳️ The Chiefs of Navy for all three AUKUS nations will meet for the Indian Ocean Defence & Security 2024. Lisa Franchetti of the US Navy, First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Ben Key of the Royal Navy, and Vice Admiral Mark Hammond of the Royal Australian Navy will all attend the biennial event in Perth this July. The gathering marks the first time all three Chiefs of Navy have been in Australia at the same time! IODS 2024 will be delivered in partnership with AMDA Foundation Limited, a leading not-for-profit foundation in major defence industry conferences around Australia. The 3-day biennial conference will include events such as defence career options for graduates and skilled professionals, and highlight opportunities in WA’s growing defence industry.
