Mindset is everything! The first thing to do is to help them get aware of their limiting beliefs and mindset barriers. Unless they are willing to accept and work with this, the chances of them being willing to accept change is quite small.

A great book by Alberto Savoia - The Right It, is very helpful in understanding that you must first test and validate your ideas before you build it, otherwise you run a huge risk of building the wrong 'it'. Founders and aspiring founders sometimes carry the belief that if they share their ideas with the world, someone may steal it. So they don't get to the validation part quick enough, because they get stuck in perfecting their product, securing it with patents etc. before they do any market testing. Having worked with countless founders, I know that learning to validate your ideas before you build it, is quite a mindset shift. But once you do, you get into the habit of doing it and making sure you don't waste your valuable resources.

KLT - Know, Like and Trust is how the flow goes. If your product is unknown, then the first step is to make it known. You can't just skip to the trust stage. Could you perhaps do a free trial, a limited time offer, show proof of trust from other sources, share output data from other case studies, get champions to get behind the cause and champion the products or services internally. A big part of unknown products and services is the fear of failure or making the wrong decision, so the easier you can make it for the client to own the product or service, the more they will come to know it, like it and trust it.

Ethos, pathos, logos is a very effective framework when it comes to storytelling, especially business storytelling. Ethos - means credibility, pathos is emotions and logos means logic. Using all three is equally important in storytelling. Data is crucial to build credibility and support the logic of your storytelling. And this balanced with emotion, elevates the quality of your storytelling to the next level.

A strategic vision for innovation is beyond a plan. It's more an imaginary view of the future that you would like to bring to life. It takes a bit of foresight, some wishful thinking and some chutzpah to come up with a strategic vision. The next step is to think about who (not what) will make this vision come to life.
