Not many know that when I started Projectus, we got our start by tackling distressed projects that others wouldn't or couldn't touch. These projects further honed our technical as well as inter-personal skills - motivating a project team that's been in the dumps is a challenge, but a rewarding one when traction is re-established and milestones start getting racked up again. Performance management in construction: Precise metrics and effective interventions Managing diverse teams across New Zealand and my home country has shown me that precise performance management is crucial in construction. Here’s my focused approach: 1) Define clear KPIs. Set specific, measurable KPIs for each role based on project deliverables, safety, and timelines. Regularly review and adjust them to match evolving project needs. 2) Real-time monitoring. Use project management software to track performance data in real-time. This allows for immediate identification of issues, whether they are skill gaps, resource shortages, or communication breakdowns. PowerBI dashboard can help with that. 3)Targeted feedback! Conduct bi-weekly check-ins and quarterly reviews that are data-driven and objective. Use these sessions to acknowledge top performers and set actionable plans for improvement where needed. 4)Corrective actions. For underperformers, implement clear Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) with defined goals, resources for support, and timelines for reassessment. Monitor progress closely to ensure improvement. 5)Optimised meetings. Structure meetings to focus on performance metrics, resolve roadblocks, and set actionable next steps, making every meeting a driver for performance improvement. 6)Continuous adaptation. Regularly analyse performance data to refine strategies and maintain agility, ensuring the team meets the highest standards even as project demands change.By applying these methods, I ensure every team member contributes to the success of the project and grows professionally.

Infrastructure NSW has released a survey to assess industry readiness to deliver low-carbon infrastructure as part of the commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.   In April 2024, Infrastructure NSW released its new Decarbonising Infrastructure Delivery Policy (https://lnkd.in/gZ_iTE6Q). This policy will apply to all NSW Government building projects valued over $50 million and linear infrastructure projects valued over $100 million. The policy will ensure that upfront carbon, the emissions generated during the production of materials and the construction of infrastructure, is considered consistently on NSW Government projects.   The survey results will provide insights into existing capability on embodied emissions across the sector and inform the development of training to help industry prepare for when the policy becomes operational in April 2025.     Infrastructure NSW wants to hear from professionals working across the infrastructure project lifecycle (including both buildings and linear infrastructure).
