The Importance of long-term storage in the global energy transition. ZEN's CEO, Anthony Garnaut, recently participated in the 2024 Asia Investor Event hosted by one of our key investors and a leading global alternative investment firm, Stonepeak. The “Energy Transition” Panel discussion served as an excellent platform for ZEN to underscore the critical role of long-term storage capacity not only in South Australia, where our 111MW Templers Battery project is based, but globally. As Anthony highlighted in the insightful discussion moderated by Ryan Chua, Senior Managing Director at Stonepeak, ZEN’s role in this key and necessary transition involves developing flexible and efficient solutions to support customers in their renewable journey. For this model to continue achieving successful outcomes, investment in long-term storage infrastructure, such as Batteries and Hydrogen storage, is essential. ZEN's Templers Battery project is making great strides in its initial construction phase. Once completed, the project will deliver 111MW of battery storage, enough electricity to power 96,000 South Australian homes for over 2.5 hours. "Circular Solutions: Motivational Mondays". Last week, we kicked off our Monday series for this month. Today, we are featuring an inspiring example from South Australia and a project we have been fortunate to support over the years: The Forktree Project, by Tim Jarvis AM. The not-for-profit organisation embodies the principles of the Circular Economy with goals that include: - Providing habitat for native species and combating climate change through rewilding the land and reusing resources to reduce landfill waste. - Improving access to carbon funding for small and medium-sized landholders by trialling better ways to calculate carbon emissions, thus encouraging more tree planting. - Nurturing a seed nursery to grow native plants and trees. - Serving as an educational resource to promote sustainable practices and small-scale land regeneration. ZEN is proud to see the project's ongoing success, with native birds returning to the land. We actively engage in these efforts, including our recent Volunteering Day with our partners Salesforce and MAC Trade Services. The clear blue skies and soft soil made for a perfect day of planting trees. Last week, I was fortunate to speak at the South West Sydney Housing & Infrastructure Forum, organised in Campbelltown City Council by the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue. My intent was to bring focus to the window of opportunity before us to build the energy infrastructure that the region needs to deliver affordable energy to its rapidly growing population, and to capitalise on the opportunities that come with a successful energy transition. Here is a snippet:   "Sydney's Greater West is transforming quickly, and this will only gain pace over the next few decades.     It is a region that has historically come a distant second to the rest of Sydney for its infrastructure needs.    Now is the time, backed by focused government and business support, to build to last for the people of Western Sydney: the infrastructure of the future that climate resilience requires and that will help communities prosper.   With the establishment of the NSW Renewable Energy Zones, the state’s energy transition is placing generation away from the load centre to where solar and wind is located – New England, the Hunter, Dubbo, the Illawarra and around Hay.     This means we have to spend more money to bring that energy into the centres that need it - centres like Western Sydney that are the engine room of the state's economy and where we have growth and demand across the board: in housing, in manufacturing and energy-thirsty data centres.   With our proposed Western Sydney Pumped Hydro project, we will build 1 GW of capacity that can run for up to 8 hours.    It is an asset built to last - for 70 to 100 years. Pumped hydro also provides inertia into the grid, like a baseload generator, ensuring secure and stable energy when NSW needs it the most. And built here, in Western Sydney."
